Atletico Madrid said on Sunday that former Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta had signed a one-year extension as they confirmed the departure of Memphis Depay.
Azpilicueta, 34, who joined in 2023 after 11 trophy-filled seasons at Chelsea, will stay at the Metropolitano until next summer.
Depay had said earlier this month that he was leaving the club he joined in January last year after struggling to find a first-team spot at Barcelona.
He initially signed a two-and-a-half-year contract but Depay - who has played in all three of the Netherlands' matches so far at Euro 2024 - has agreed to part ways with the club 12 months early.
Spanish defender Mario Hermoso and Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Paulista, who spent two seasons at Arsenal, are also leaving the club.
