Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles will miss the rest of the World Cup after sustaining knee injuries during Brazil's shock defeat to Cameroon on Friday.

Arsenal striker Jesus and Manchester United full-back Telles, on loan to Sevilla, underwent MRI scans this morning and in a following statement Brazil’s football federation (CBF) said it was "impossible" for them to continue in the tournament.

"Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus underwent tests on Saturday morning accompanied by Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar and a MRI on their right knees confirmed the extent of the injuries and the impossibility of recovery in time to participate in the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022", a statement from CBF read.

The injuries are a blow to Brazil who are aiming for the sixth World Cup crown but face a growing injury crisis.

Forward Neymar is suffering from ankle ligament damage, left back Alex Sandro with a hip injury and right back Danilo with an ankle issue.

Brazil topped Group G despite their 1-0 defeat to Cameroon and face South Korea in the last 16 on Monday.
