Brazilian UFC fighter Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira (33) believes himself to still be the lightweight champion, despite being forced to vacate the title after missing weight for his UFC 274 defence against Justin Gaethje. At UFC 280, he will have the chance to recover what he says is his when he clashes with Russian Islam Makhachev in Abu Dhabi.

The São Paulo fighter's motivation couldn't be much higher, with confidence a vital component when fight night comes: "I'm going to continue making history. I've shown that I really am the real champion.

"I'm going for one more title defence, I'm not going to win the title back. No one will get it out of my head. Charles is still the lightweight champion", declared the former UFC champion on The Countdown.

The numbers also speak in favour of the Brazilian, statistically the greatest finisher in the history of the UFC with 19 ending prematurely (16 by way of submission). He is also joint fifth for most victories in UFC history and has earnt the most post-fight bonuses of all time.

Oliveira has 11 straight wins which always draws the attention of Dana White, as well as the fans, who are used to expecting a spectacular show every time he enters the Octagon.

Oliveira's opponent, Islam Makhachev (30), has plenty of hype surrounding him. Sitting on a ten-fight win streak, the Russian has none other than Khabib helping him in his corner - and is widely seen as the heir apparent to his coach's legacy.

Sparks will no doubt fly as the two top contenders finally face off on Saturday night.
