Peter Wright claimed his first ranking title of 2023 at the Czech Darts Open with an 8-6 win over Dave Chisnall in Prague.

Wright has had a difficult season following his triumph at the Nordic Darts Open in January.

But the two-time world champion, who is bottom of the Premier League table, ended his silverware drought on Sunday with an eighth European Tour title.

The £30,000 victory has also helped Wright climb back above Michael van Gerwen into second place in the PDC Order of Merit.

Speaking to the official PDC website, Wright said: "Wow, I won! Chizzy has won three in about six months, so it's always going to be hard playing him.

"To win tournaments, you need these ton-plus averages. My averages will go up - and they need to go up - because the standard of player around at the moment is unbelievable and it's great for darts."

Wright held off defending champion Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals before surviving a rally by Damon Heta in the semis.

Chisnall, meanwhile, beat Rob Cross in the semi-finals after claiming earlier wins over Nathan Aspinall and Andrew Gilding.
