Callan Rydz ended a title drought lasting nearly two years on Sunday after beating Dave Chisnall 8-7 in a tense Players Championship 19 final in Barnsley.

Rydz, whose last PDC ranking title came in 2021, survived a late fightback from Chisnall to claim the honours and scoop up the £12,000 prize pot.

"I've been awful this year, but in this last month I've been using new darts and they went alright today," said the 25-year-old, who strengthened his position to qualify for the World Grand Prix with victory.

"I've always thought about slowing down, sometimes I was a little bit too quick for myself, but it's worked for me today.

"Today I didn't play fantastic all day, but I was hitting the right shots at the right time. It's baby steps for me, and today was a big step."

Rydz's route to the final saw him fend off some stiff competition, beating the likes of Gabriel Clemens, Peter Wright, Ross Smith and James Wade.

Chisnall, meanwhile, had been eyeing a third title of the year but fell just short after reaching the final relatively untroubled.
