Darts Premier League: Michael Smith wins night three
Smith won all three games, claiming his first Night Win of the Premier League season as he moved level on points with Nathan Aspinall at the top of the table.
Quarter-finals
Aspinall got the evening underway with a 6-5 win against six-time Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen.
The Englishman just edged out his opponent, although Van Gerwen took the Moment of the Night award with a fantastic 170 checkout.
Eventual finalist Van den Bergh also caused an upset in the opening round, beating World Number two Peter Wright 6-4.
It was then Smith's turn to show his skills against a tough opponent in Price, winning 6-3 in the penultimate quarter-final match.
The last tie of the opening round saw Clayton ease past Chris Dobey with a 6-1 victory.
Semi-finals
Van den Bergh would repeat the same impressive scorline in his semi-final tie against Aspinall, winning 6-1 to book his place in the final.
The Belgian averaged a score of over 105 for every three darts thrown - comfortably ahead of Aspinall's average of 86.34.
Smith then took to the stage against Clayton and only narrowly came out on top with a 6-5 triumph.
Both men threw two 180s each but Smith hit the bigger scores overall, scoring 140+ on 13 different occasions.
Final
Smith and Van den Bergh then took each other on in the final match of the night.
The former came out on top, winning 6-4 to go top of the Premier League.
His impressive performances throughout the night were capped off with a superb showing in the final, averaging 109.42 against a formidable opponent in Van den Bergh.
Victory for Smith took him level on points with Aspinall after three nights of Premier League darts.
