Djibril Cisse signed by Kings League team Los Troncos
Away from the pitch since 2018, when he played for semi-professional side Yverdon-Sport, Cisse will put on his boots again.
This Wednesday, YouTuber Perxitaa, president of Kings League side Los Troncos FC, announced the former French international's arrival.
Cisse will be the 13th player in Perxitaa's squad and could make his debut on May 14th, on the second match-day of the second Kings League tournament.
Cisse has played at the highest level throughout his career, winning the Champions League with Liverpool, scoring 96 goals in Ligue 1 - where he represented Marseille, Bastia and Auxerre - and playing for France on 41 occasions, including at two World Cups in 2002 and 2010.
He initially retired in 2015, but went back on his decision; playing at lower levels and often stating that he wanted one day return to Ligue 1 - so he could score four more goals that would take him to a century.
While it looks unlikely he'll ever do that, he will now have the chance to play the sport competitively again, in a league that Pique launched at the end of 2022 along with a number of Internet personalities.
The 12-squad teams can field seven players at a time and make unlimited substitutions; matches are also shorter and played on a smaller pitch.
