Eubank Jr could set up lucrative Golovkin fight with win over Smith
Gennadiy Golovkin's team believe a bout in the UK against Chris Eubank Jr "would be interesting", should the Englishman overcome countryman Liam Smith in Saturday's huge clash in Manchester.
The unified middleweight champion has long been in the sights of Eubank Jr, who has risen to prominence in the boxing world in recent years with a string of eye-catching performances.
GGG lost his last fight to Canelo Alvarez on a points decision in September at super-middleweight but still holds the WBA and IBF titles at 160lbs, the weight class where Eubank Jr will fight Liam Smith on January 21.
Eubank Jr hopes a victory over a resilient Smith will set up the mouth-watering clash, although Golovkin's team still believe the former IBO super-middleweight champion may struggle with the tough Liverpudlian.
"Eubank Jr I would describe as a rising star and GGG is a legend," GGG's representative Tom Loeffler told Sky Sports.
"You never know down the road. That could be an interesting fight if that's something that Gennadiy's interested in doing."
Golovkin last boxed in London back in 2016 in an exciting clash against Kell Brook.
The colourful Eubank Jr hasn't been shy in sharing barbs and insults aimed at his upcoming opponent ahead of next weekend's clash.
The 33-year-old has accused Liam Smith of being a "dirty fighter", suggesting Smith often throws headbutts and elbows in his fights - a claim Smith was keen to deny by suggesting he will simply "do anything he can" to win.
"It's a fight, it's a called a fight," Smith proclaimed.
As well as the exchange of words, Eubank Jr also recently released a strange video on social media - filmed in his kitchen - suggesting Smith "is nothing but a piece of meat" before proceeding to fry a steak and mimic the infamous Salt Bae's signature seasoning style.
