Former footballer Luís Figo said on Wednesday his "favourites" to win the Champions League are Manchester City and Bayern Munich, although he admitted Real Madrid "always have to be reckoned with".

The 50-year-old former Portuguese international, a Champions League winner with Real Madrid in 2001/02, ended his career in 2008/09 at Inter Milan, who will be Benfica's opponents in the Champions League quarter-finals.

"In the Champions League you always have to count on Real Madrid, but my favourites are Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Inter Milan are a bit more complicated and my level of favouritism is a bit lower," said Figo during the presentation of the Vicente Del Bosque Campus, which will again be held in the Majorcan town of Calviá, in Spain.

The two favourites of the former Portuguese footballer - City and Bayern - will face each other in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, so only one will be in the semi-finals of the competition.

Figo, who worked with Vicente Del Bosque at Real Madrid, expressed his total "respect and admiration" for the coach, who was one of the people who helped him most in integrating into the club after his transfer from Barcelona and adapting to the city.

"I didn't know him and the years working with him presented me with a unique person. I will be eternally grateful for the values he transmits. I always wish him the best because I appreciate him very much."
