A player from every Championship team to watch this season
While the Premier League rightly takes most of the attention, there are always a select few in the league below that are ready to impress in one of the most competitive divisions in Europe.
The Championship provides an excellent platform for players to do just that and showcase their ability across a gruelling 46-game season.
Here, Flashscore take a look at one player to watch from each of the 24 teams in the second tier.
Just to note, while the transfer window is still ongoing, some players would appear here but have been left out due to likely or impending moves away.
Birmingham City - Siriki Dembele
Birmingham seem to be reaping the rewards of a recent takeover, bringing in a whole host of new faces as they bid to put a disappointing few years behind them.
One of the most exciting additions is that of winger Sirki Dembele who enjoyed a productive season the last time he was in the Championship with Peterborough and Bournemouth - scoring seven and assisting three.
Honourable mention (HM) - George Hall
Blackburn Rovers - Adam Wharton
Born in 2004, 19-year-old Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton has caught the eye of many clubs in the Premier League, but it looks like he will spend another season in the Championship - which in all honesty is likely the best scenario for his development to continue.
Wharton is a technically gifted midfielder who can also help out defensively and his growth throughout the season will be interesting to watch - the youngster has already played 22 times for the first team in all competitions and will assume a more prominent role in the upcoming campaign.
HM - Arnor Sigurdsson
Bristol City - Tommy Conway
Bristol City have built quite an exciting side ahead of the 2023/24 season with smart additions such as Haydon Roberts and Jack Knight, but one player to look forward to that has come out of the clubs' academy is Tommy Conway.
The striker already has 10 Championship goals to his name and at just 20-years-old could further add to that in the coming campaign.
Naturally, the obvious answer here would have been Alex Scott, but he looks destined for a move to the Premier League.
HM - Sam Bell
Cardiff City - Aaron Ramsey
In a real fairy tale story, Aaron Ramsey returned to his boyhood club this summer and reportedly turned down lucrative moves to Saudi Arabia in the process.
Cardiff have struggled for the past few years, but Welsh hero Ramsey could lead a charge back up the table for the Blue Birds.
HM - Ike Ugbo
Coventry City - Ellis Simms
Coventry beat off a host of Championship clubs to secure the permanent signing of Ellis Simms - who netted seven times in 17 games for Sunderland last season.
Having already proved his worth in the Championship, Simms now has the tough task of replacing Viktor Gyokeres' goals following the Swede's departure for Sporting Lisbon.
HM - Milan van Ewijk
Huddersfield Town - Jack Rudoni
After joining from League Two AFC Wimbledon last summer, Jack Rudoni enjoyed a fairly steady first season in the second tier and can now kick on after getting another year of football under his belt - featuring in all 46 Championship games.
Rudoni can play anywhere in the midfield as well as both flanks and he will be vital to Huddersfield's chances of staying up.
HM - Michal Helik
Hull City - Harry Vaughan
Harry Vaughan arrived at Hull on deadline day in January 2022 and impressed in his limited game time that followed.
Hull enjoyed a successful end to the season, only losing two of their last 12 games, which is momentum they will want to bring with them into the coming campaign.
Vaughan will be hoping for more minutes this season and at just 19-years-old could be ready to properly break into the first team.
HM - Ozan Tufan
Ipswich Town - Conor Chaplin
Ipswich will be looking to keep their momentum from last season's promotion heading into the new Championship campaign, with Conor Chaplin once again expected to be one of the main sources of goals.
He managed 26 goals and five assists in League One and will be called upon to provide further returns in the Championship as the Tractor Boys aim high once again.
HM - Leif Davis
Leeds United - Charlie Cresswell
Defensively, Leeds were the worst team in the Premier League last season and conceded 78 goals which is a serious issue they need to address if they are to get promoted out of the Championship.
The solution to their issues could be a lot closer to home than they might think, in the form of Charlie Cresswell who spent last season on loan at Millwall, playing 28 games and even contributing with five goals.
Cresswell will likely slot into Leeds' defence and play a key role in their hunt for promotion.
HM - Archie Gray
Leicester City - Callum Doyle
Manchester City's academy has produced some fantastic talents in recent years and Callum Doyle is no different.
The defender played prominent roles in both Sunderland's League One play-off success in 2021/22 and Coventry's journey to the Championship play-off final last season, with Leicester hoping for a similar impact as they attempt to return to the Premier League.
Doyle's defensive work is top notch, but his passing really catches the eye and will be vital to the way the Foxes are trying to play this season.
HM - Harry Souttar
Middlesbrough - Riley McGree
Middlesbrough got to the play-offs last season and will be looking to continue their upward trajectory under Michael Carrick this time around - and midfielder Riley McGree could have a big impact on Teesside.
The Australian featured 43 times last season and played an important role in Carrick's side, which he will want to repeat this time around as another promotion battle looms.
HM - Morgan Rogers
Millwall - Kevin Nisbet
Millwall decided to bring in Kevin Nisbet over the summer to add more goals to their already flourishing attack - in what could prove to be a very shrewd piece of business.
The striker hit 10 goals in 14 appearances for Hibernian in Scotland last season and his poaching instincts could be very useful for Millwall as they look to push for the play-offs once more.
His link-up with Zian Flemming - should he stay at the club - could be one to keep an eye on.
HM - Romain Esse
Norwich City - Christian Fassnacht
Winger Christian Fassnacht joined Norwich from BSC Young Boys during the summer, arriving with a fair deal of pedigree having won the Swiss Super League five times.
Fassnacht scored 68 goals and provided 41 assists during his time in Switzerland and the Canaries will be hoping he can bring those sort of numbers to the Championship.
HM - Gabriel Sara
Plymouth Argyle - Morgan Whittaker
Following their promotion from League One, Plymouth have been adding players to their squad with the main aim of staying in the Championship - and their marquee signing so far is the permanent return of Morgan Whittaker.
The forward was on loan in the first part of last season but was recalled by Swansea after netting nine goals and providing seven assists.
A disappointing six months followed but Whittaker now has something to prove in the second tier with Plymouth.
HM - Bali Mumba
Preston North End - Calvin Ramsay
Despite an injury-hit first season with Liverpool following his transfer from Aberdeen, Calvin Ramsay is still very highly rated and now has a chance to prove himself in the Championship with Preston.
The Lilywhites were on the cusp of a play-off finish during the last campaign and will be looking to push on again this time around.
Ramsay will slot straight into the right wing-back position and can provide them with an added threat going forward - he provided nine assists during his first senior campaign in Scotland.
HM - Mads Frokjaer-Jensen
QPR - Jimmy Dunne
Despite picking up a shoulder injury in pre-season, Jimmy Dunne will be crucial to QPR's upcoming campaign and be undoubtedly important to their attempts to stay in the division.
Dunne is a solid defender who excels in the air and will be welcomed back into the side as quickly as possible, with the London club looking at a bleak season ahead.
HM - Asmir Begovic
Rotherham United - Viktor Johansson
Johansson was one of the best goalkeepers in the league last season and will look to continue his superb form as Rotherham once again battle to avoid relegation.
If it weren't for the Swede, the Millers may well have been in more trouble and finished lower down the table and after losing two of their best outfield players in Chiedozie Ogbene and Wes Harding, Johansson will once again have to step up for his side.
HM - Cafu
Sheffield Wednesday - Anthony Musaba
Despite having plenty to deal with after the shock departure of manager Darren Moore, Sheffield Wednesday finally seem to be moving in the right direction again as highlighted by the signing of highly-rated Monaco winger Anthony Musaba.
The Dutchman struggled to break into Monaco's side and spent a lot of time out on loan, but now has a new home to impress at.
Wednesday have secured the rapid winger's services on a permanent basis and the different dimension he offers going forward will be important to their fight for survival.
HM - George Byers
Southampton - Shea Charles
Southampton signed Manchester City academy prospect Shea Charles following their relegation from the top division and he is widely expected to take up either of the midfield roles left by James Ward-Prowse or Romeo Lavia who both look set to depart.
Charles is very highly rated by both Southampton and Northern Ireland - having already made six appearances for the national team - and looks set to make a real impact in his first full season of senior football.
HM - Carlos Alcaraz
Stoke City - Chiquinho
Chiquinho joined Stoke on loan from Wolves during the summer transfer window and should add a new dimension to their attack.
Stoke has a notable lack of threat out wide last season and their new arrival could offer something different going forward - he provided three assists from just 200 minutes of Premier League football last season.
HM - Ki-Jana Hoever
Sunderland - Luis Semedo
Sunderland addressed their issues at the top end of the pitch by bringing in Benfica youngster Luis 'Hemir' Semedo at the beginning of the transfer window - a player few fans knew anything about.
Following a period of scintillating pre-season form (four goals in four games), the Portuguese striker looks to be a shrewd addition and one that could make waves in the second tier.
Standing at a colossal six-foot-four-inches, Hemir has already proved he knows where the goal is and at just 19 could be set for a superb debut season in England.
HM - Pierre Ekwah
Swansea City - Jerry Yates
After having their pre-season plans derailed by the departure of manager Russel Martin to Southampton, Swansea are finally back on track following the arrival of Michael Duff.
On the pitch, they have brought in Jerry Yates who operates up front, who netted 14 goals for relegated Blackpool last season.
With the uncertainty surrounding Joel Piroe's future not going away anytime soon, Yates could be the next man to shine for the Swans.
HM - Matt Grimes
Watford - Yaser Asprilla
Watford are looking for a new star man following the departures of Ismaila Sarr and Joao Pedro - with Yaser Asrilla waiting in the wings.
The Colombian can play on either wing or behind the striker, possessing excellent dribbling skills.
At only 19-years-old he is far from the finished article, but the exciting youngster could make the step up and help Watford bounce back from a poor 2022/23 season.
HM - Rhys Healey
West Bromwich Albion - Josh Maja
West Brom had been in the market for a striker - despite their ongoing finance issues - and landed a solid deal in the free transfer of Josh Maja.
The one-time Nigerian international is a natural goalscorer when on form and has averaged a goal every 189 minutes across his career, although a disappointing spell with Stoke in 2022 means he will have to act quickly to win over supporters.
HM - Jeremy Sarmiento
