Championship round-up: Norwich down rivals Ipswich as Leeds lose
Elsewhere there were big results for the likes of new league leaders Leicester, Huddersfield and Middlesbrough.
Catch up on all the Saturday action from the Championship:
Norwich 1-0 Ipswich
Norwich extended their unbeaten H2H record to 14 matches following a 1-0 victory over Championship leaders Ipswich Town at Carrow Road.
Blackburn 0-0 Southampton
Blackburn Rovers produced a superb defensive display in a goalless draw with Southampton at Ewood Park, ensuring they remained three points above the relegation places on an important day at the bottom of the Championship table.
Cardiff 1-3 Hull
Fábio Carvalho’s brace helped Hull City claim a first league win in seven outings, as they comfortably ousted Cardiff City 3-1 on their own turf to leave the Bluebirds without a victory in six H2Hs stretching back to July 2020.
Coventry 2-1 Leeds
Coventry City upset the applecart in the automatic promotion race by beating Leeds United 2-1 on a record-breaking afternoon at the CBS Arena, meaning 2011 remains the last time they were beaten by the Whites.
Huddersfield 1-0 Millwall
Huddersfield Town scored a stoppage-time winner to secure a vital 1-0 victory over Millwall that saw the Terriers move out of the relegation zone and close the gap to their visitors to just one point.
Leicester 2-1 Birmingham
Stephy Mavididi’s 87th-minute match-winner helped Leicester City return to the top of the Championship table - still with a game in hand - following a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Birmingham City at the King Power Stadium.
Middlesbrough 2-0 Swansea
Middlesbrough kept their fading play-off hopes alive after Emmanuel Latte Lath struck either side of HT as Michael Carrick’s side ground out a 2-0 victory over Swansea, extending their unbeaten run to seven games in the process.
QPR 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday
Djeidi Gassama's goal on the hour mark and Anthony Musaba's late strike from the bench was enough to ensure that Sheffield Wednesday defeated Queens Park Rangers in a narrow 2-0 win to boost their Championship survival chances and seal just their third victory in their last 14 league games at Loftus Road.
Stoke 2-2 West Brom
West Bromwich Albion once again consolidated their fifth-placed position, which has been remarkably held for 18 consecutive weeks, despite surrendering a two-goal lead to allow Stoke City to claim a vital point and remain in 18th position.
Sunderland 0-0 Bristol City
It was honours even at the Stadium of Light, as Sunderland atoned partially for their shocking Easter defeat to Blackburn on home turf, grinding out a 0-0 draw with visitors Bristol City that does neither side’s very remote Championship playoff chances any favours.
Watford 0-0 Preston
Watford’s miserable winless home run in the Championship extended to 11 matches as they held Preston North End to a goalless draw at Vicarage Road, as the Lilywhites’ 19-year wait for an away H2H win goes on.
