Another weekend of Championship action has passed, with five of the top six picking up victories while the bottom two clubs Cardiff and Portsmouth remain the only teams in the division yet to win a game.

West Brom, Sunderland, Burnley, Sheffield United and Leeds all continued their strong starts to the campaign with important wins, while other clubs struggled again.

The likes of Coventry, Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday were beaten while QPR could only draw at London rivals Millwall.

On top of that, there has been another managerial casualty with Cardiff sacking Erol Bulut just six games into the season.

Here, Flashscore takes a look at all the major talking points from the latest round of fixtures in the Championship.

Rigg's dream 'derby day' moment

Depending on who you ask, Sunderland faced Middlesbrough at the weekend in either the Wear-Tees derby or a regular Saturday lunchtime fixture.

Black Cats fans will be quick to tell you that it's not a derby while their Teeside neighbours have the opposite belief.

Regardless of the differing views, the match on Saturday was certainly a feisty affair with Sunderland defender Trai Hume scything down Emmanuel Latte Lath inside 10 minutes prompting a very generous yellow card; had VAR been involved the Northern Irishman would almost certainly have been dismissed.

That set the tone for the rest of the game and Middlesbrough went on to earn a bit of luck themselves with two penalty claims ignored by referee Simon Hooper.

In a match that lacked quality in front of goal at times, the real highlight came from local lad Chris Rigg who displayed why he is one of the most sought-after youngsters in the country.

The 17-year-old latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area and showed quick feet to round goalkeeper Seny Dieng before finding the net from a tight angle with an audacious backheel; a chance plenty of senior professionals would have put into the side-netting.

Rigg has taken the Championship by storm this season with his performances in midfield and is proving why he was courted by the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the summer - eventually opting to sign a new deal with Sunderland for first-team football, which is exactly what he's getting.

While it may or may not be a derby, Rigg's goal prompted wild celebrations and proved to be the match-winner in a 1-0 victory for the Black Cats.

Lancashire derby descends to chaos

Preston hosted Blackburn in the latest Lancashire derby on Sunday lunchtime and while questions can be asked about the legitimacy of Sunderland v Middlesbrough, they certainly won't be for North End v Rovers.

The match ended 0-0 but was certainly not short of entertainment after a red card for both sides and several scuffles throughout the encounter.

Preston's Sam Greenwood was the first to be dismissed after a horror tackle on Lewis Baker, diving in with both feet to scissor his opponent's legs and get barely the faintest of touches on the ball - sparking a big melee between the two sets of players on the pitch.

The hosts actually had the better chances despite being down to ten men before the numbers were evened out following Balckburn's Owen Beck needlessly kicking out at an opposition attacker late in the game.

That, of course, sparked another scuffle between the two sides which curiously led to Beck seeming to claim that someone had bit him during the confrontation - something to keep an eye on retrospectively in the coming days.

The latest Lancashire debry certainly lacked quality, but for entertainment value was right up there across this weekend's Championship matches.

Pelach's debut to forget

Stoke City parted ways with Steven Schumacher last week and were quick to replace him with Narcis Pelach, who up until that point had only ever coached in England and never been a full-time Championship manager.

His managerial debut with Stoke didn't go well with the Potters falling to a 3-1 loss at home against Hull City - who were without a league win before Friday's match.

Pelach's side started quite well and showed early signs of a proper pressing system, getting the better of Hull in the first half and deservedly going into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to Ben Wilmot's header.

Things quickly fell apart during the second period though, with Stoke capitulating and conceding three goals in 16 minutes to completely undo all the hard work put in previously.

In fact, it was goalscorer Wilmot who was at the centre of their misfortune after giving the ball away cheaply for Hull's second and then turning the ball into his own net for the third.

Hull took advantage of their opposition's shortcomings with a superb second-half showing but it's hard not to feel that Stoke should have been out of sight long before the Tigers grew back into the game.

It turned out to be a night to forget for the Potters and Pelach, who had no 'new manager bounce' and now has plenty of issues to sort out.

The departure of Schumacher seemed strange at the time and still does now; although Pelach will bring new ideas and his side did show some signs of promise on Friday despite the disappointing result.

Leeds condemn Cardiff's Bulut

I wrote last week that while Schumacher's 'sacking' was a shock, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Cardiff dismiss Erol Bulut sometime soon.

It wasn't the most outlandish prediction but the Blue Birds have since sacked Bulut following another dismal performance, this time a 2-0 defeat to Leeds.

Cardiff went into the match with just one point and no wins from their opening five matches and their bad form continued - losing to one of the promotion favourites.

While the result itself wasn't exactly unexpected Cardiff's performance was once again extremely poor following an early red card for defender Joel Bagan.

The Irishman was dismissed midway through the first half and barely seven minutes later his side went behind.

Leeds took full advantage of having the extra man and finished the match with 80% possession compared to Cardiff's 20%, with the Blue Birds also managing just three shots all game.

The loss marked another shocking display from Cardiff who were certainly not one of the sides tipped to be battling relegation let alone without a win almost two months into the campaign.

Bulut's reign comes to an end in disappointing fashion and the Welsh club have to find a quick solution to get them out of the serious trouble they now find themselves in.

Hamer continues to show his class

Time for our regular 'Goal of the Week' feature now and in all honesty there were a few that nearly qualified for selection but just weren't quite up to standard - which leaves a very deserving winner from Gustavo Hamer.

The Dutchman got on the scoresheet once again for Sheffield United, netting the decisive goal in their 1-0 win against Derby.

Hamer lined up a free-kick from around 20 yards out and curled a stunning effort into the top corner before going on to dedicate his strike to Sheffield United Women's player Maddy Cusack who passed away a year ago.

A truly amazing goal and a beautiful celebration to go with it.

Morris and Luton back in business

Several individual performances stood out this week but the most impressive has to be Carlton Morris' role in Luton's comeback victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker started on the bench but was brought on after an hour and went on to score twice as the Hatters came from a goal down to win 2-1.

Morris first cooly dispatched a penalty before pouncing on a loose ball in the six-yard box to seal all three points for the hosts; just their second win of the season.

His performance earned him a 9.0 Flashscore player rating, making him our Player of the Week - take a look at this week's 'Top 11' for the other standout performers:
