Leeds United ended Easter Monday back in the Championship top-two following a dramatic 3-1 win at home to Hull City. Crysencio Summerville’s 88th minute penalty and a Daniel James stoppage time strike gave the Whites a ninth consecutive league victory at Elland Road.

After wins for their promotion rivals Leicester and Ipswich earlier in the day, Leeds knew they needed a quick start to relieve some pressure and to the delight of the home fans they opened the scoring inside 10 minutes.

Crysencio Summerville did well to force Ryan Allsop to parry the ball straight into the path of Sam Byram to head home from close range.

The hosts continued to play like a side that were unbeaten at home this season and were only denied a second goal by a Patrick Bamford howler that saw the forward fail to turn in Dan James’s cross from a few yards out.

Bamford was made to pay for that missed chance as shortly after Hull equalised following great play from Tyler Morton to pick out the youngster on loan from Liverpool Fábio Carvalho, whose cute flick at the front post levelled the scoreline heading into HT.

Historically, Hull had struggled against Leeds only winning four of their last 26 meetings, but despite this they came flying out of the blocks in the second half and almost took the lead through the dangerous Jaden Philogene and then Abdülkadir Ömür who both put an effort just wide of the post.

After coming off the bench and scoring the equaliser against Watford last time out, Mateo Joseph almost had an instant impact once again when he got on the end of Junior Firpo’s cross and crashed an effort off the post.

The game turned on its head through another piece of magical play from Summerville who showed great pace to get past Regan Slater, who then brought him down in the area, allowing the Dutchman to make it 2-1 from the spot with minutes remaining.

Dan James then netted an effort almost from the halfway line into an empty Hull net, deep in stoppage time, wrapping up a crucial 3-1 victory over Hull that takes them one point behind leaders Ipswich Town with six games remaining.
