Leeds United were held to a 1-1 draw at Rotherham United as the Whites remain winless in 13 of their last 16 Friday night away matches in the Championship.

Leeds showed no signs of sluggishness after the international break, making a flying start six minutes in when Georginio Rutter’s first-time through-ball carved through Rotherham’s backline and fed in Crysencio Summerville, who curled in his fifth goal in six matches.

The Whites dominated possession after the early breakthrough and Daniel Farke’s side pushed for a second. Summerville continued to provide a threat when he won the ball back in his own half, raced forward, and teed up Glen Kamara, whose shot ended up high in the side netting.

Chances continued to come for Leeds with Summerville and Joël Piroe testing Johansson.

Yet the visitors were punished for the wastefulness by the Millers on the stroke of HT as Hakeem Odofin reacted first to a loose ball inside the area, thumping a low strike under Illan Meslier and into the net.

Rotherham carried that momentum into the second period, going in search of just a third Championship win of the season.

Sam Nombe led the charge by dispossessing Joe Rodon, racing into the area, and shooting past Meslier only for his effort to be cleared off the line by the recovering Liam Cooper.

A cagey final 30 minutes took hold but Farke’s triple change injected some late life into Leeds, with substitute Wilfried Gnonto almost making an instant impact with a fierce volley that went inches over the bar.

In the dying stages, Meslier repelled Fred Onyedinma’s shot to secure Leeds a point, before Jaidon Anthony’s late tap-in was ruled out for offside at the other end.

Ultimately, the visitors will be disappointed in giving up their earlier one-goal advantage as their three-match winning streak comes to an end.

Rotherham’s form at the New York Stadium continues to provide a bright spark in an otherwise challenging season as the Millers have now earned 11 of their 12 points on home soil.
