Bayern Munich got their pre-season off to a thumping start as they swept aside Rottach-Egern 27-0 in a friendly at Stadion am Birkenmoos on Tuesday.

Thomas Tuchel surprisingly named a full-strength side to face their opponents who play in the ninth-tier of the German football league.

Bayern’s starting XI, featuring Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies, tore through Rottach-Egern with Jamal Musiala scoring the opening goal inside the first three minutes.

Musiala and Mathys Tel both scored five goals for the Bundesliga champions with Gnabry netting a hat-trick as the first half ended 18-0 - with Davies, Sane, Konrad Laimer, Noussair Mazraoui and Dayot Upamecano all getting on the scoresheet.

Despite making 11 changes at half-time, the Bavarians took just five minutes to score after the break with Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer finding the back of the net for the first of his five goals of the game.

Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane completed the rout with the final goal in the 90th minute.

Bayern are no strangers to beating Rottach-Egern with a large scoreline having trounced them 23-0 in 2019, and 20-0 in 2016.

They are expected to face a much tougher examination in their next pre-season fixture, against European champions Manchester City at the National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, on July 26th.
