"It's all about aggression and intensity and defending like a team and I think it was a good step and an important one."

20:22 BST - Orkun Kokcu has been shown a yellow card and will miss Turkey's next match.

20:03 BST - GOAL! Turkey have wated no time in taking the lead. Merih Demiral with the opener, 1-0.

18:52 BST - GOAL! The Netherlands add a third! Donyell Malen has a second and it comes from a break down the left. He takes the ball all the way from his own half and cooly slots home to put the game to bed.

18:42 BST - GOAL! The Netherlands finally have their second! Cody Gakpo does well to keep the ball alive when it looks like it's going out for a goal kick. He passes short to Donyell Malen who pokes the ball home to all but secure the victory.

18:32 BST - Micky van de Ven is the latest Dutchman to fire a shot narrowly wide. There's a goal coming...

18:27 BST - Memphis Depay goes for goal from a free kick - along the floor after correctly predicting that the wall would jump - but it's a couple of inches too far to the left.

18:22 BST - GOAL RULED OUT! Cody Gakpo believes he has a second after a bit of confusion from the rebound of yet another Dutch corner, but VAR halts the celebrations to confirm he was offside.

18:18 BST - CLOSE! Virgil van Dijk rises highest from a Dutch corner but his headed effort shaves past the right post.

18:16 BST - CHANCE! Memphis Depay has a shot from right in front of goal blocked by Andrei Ratiu. Incredible defence.

18:04 BST - We are back underway in Munich. Can the Netherlands close this one out?

17:54 BST - Here's the sequence that resulted in Cody Gakpo's opener:

17:49 BST - HALF-TIME: We have reached the break in Munich. The Netherlands have largely been in control but Romania are far from out of this. Stay tuned for the second half.

17:44 BST - CHANCE! You won't see too many of those from Xavi Simons. He gets a pass from Denzel Dumfries in acres of space in the box, but after stumbling over his own feet he sends the ball harmlessly wide. A let-off for Romania there.

17:39 BST - Vasile Mogos picks up an injury in an accidental head clash, and after failing to fully recover is replaced by Bogdan Racovitan

17:26 BST - CLOSE! Stefan de Vrij is free at the back and able to head for goal unchallenged, but he sends the effort into the side-netting.

17:20 BST - GOAL! Netherlands strike first! Cody Gakpo gets the ball down the left, and after cutting inside the defence he beats the keeper on the near post.

17:15 BST - CLOSE! Dennis Man shoots from the edge of the box, but the effort flies just over the bar.

17:07 BST - Ianis Hagi is back on the field, sporting a rather fetching hairnet. If Romania win this game, it will fetch plenty in the memorabilia market in future.

17:03 BST - It's been a solid start. Ianis Hagi almost gets on the end of a promising cross from Razvan Marin in front of goal, but instead he gets on the end of Denzel Dumfries' elbow and is now bleeding. Completely unintentional from the Dutchman, but there is a break in play while the medics get Hagi sorted.

17:00 BST - Here we go! Felix Zwayer blows his whistle and the Netherlands kick us off in Munich.

16:49 BST - Here's what to expect from this evening's clash:

16:32 BST - Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has made three changes for tonight's clash, bringing Xavi Simons, Denzel Dumfries and Steven Bergwijn into the starting line-up.

The trio replaced Joey Veerman - who was substituted after 35 minutes in the Netherlands' final group match with Austria - Donyell Malen and Lutsharel Geertruida.

Romania have made two changes to their team, with coach Edward Iordanescu bringing in Vasile Mogos for the suspended Nicusor Bancu and Dennis Man for Florinel Coman.

15:53 BST - We'll soon have team news for the Netherlands' clash with Romania, which kicks off in a little over an hour.

15:06 BST - Austria manager Ralf Rangnick will be in familiar territory later on when his side take the field against Turkey. Read all about his unlikely return to Leipzig Stadium here.

14:13 BST - Speaking yesterday, Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman ruled out making wholesale changes for today's match.

The Dutch finished third in their group and were beaten 3-2 by Austria in their last outing, but he insisted: "I will not make many changes to the line-up, we shouldn't panic because of just one game."

11:38 BST - Good morning and welcome along for another day of Euro 2024 knockouts. First up the Netherlands will face surprise package Romania at 17:00 BST, before Austria take on Turkey in the late game at 20:00.

The four teams are vying for the final two quarter-final spots, in the same side of the draw as Gareth Southgate's England.

Monday, July 1st

22:48 BST - FULL-TIME: All the real drama in this game was saved for after the 90 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo was in tears after missing a penalty in the first period of extra time, and Benjamin Sesko had a huge chance to win it for Slovenia in the second. Then came the penalties - where Diogo Costa became the first goalkeeper to save all the penalties he faced at a shootout at the Euros. Unbelievable. Read the full report here.

22:54 BST - GOAL! Bernardo Silva makes it 3-0 - that's how you win a penalty shootout! Portugal progress and will play France in the quarter-finals.

22:42 BST - SAVE! Benjamin Verbic is the latest to have his penalty saved!

22:41 BST - GOAL! Bruno Fernandes makes it 2-0 with a calm penalty.

22:41 BST - SAVE! Jure Balkovec is the man to step up for Slovenia's second, and he sends it left but Diogo Costa guesses correctly and saves it.

22:40 BST - GOAL! Cristiano Ronaldo makes it 1-0 to Portugal after one penalty each.

22:39 BST - SAVE! Diogo Costa dives to the left side of the goal and brilliantly saves Josip Ilicic's penalty. Here comes Cristiano Ronaldo to take his side's first penalty.

22:36 BST - The problem for Portugal, is that Jan Oblak has already saved a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo tonight. Will that be in the heads of the Portuguese?

22:34 BST - END OF EXTRA-TIME: There's the referee's whistle, we're heading for penalties.

22:28 BST - OH MY WORD! Huge chance for Slovenia there. Benjamin Sesko gets free from Pepe and only has the keeper to beat, but Diogo Costa gets big and blocks the chance. The whole of Portugal watched that unfold in slow motion through their fingers, no doubt.

22:15 BST - That's the end of the first half of extra-time. Cristiano Ronaldo is in floods of tears in the huddle after missing that penalty. Play soon restarts, and we are now 15 minutes away from penalties.

22:14 BST - SAVED! To the surprise of precisely nobody, Cristiano Ronaldo steps up to take the penalty. He sends it to the right, but a sensational save from Jan Oblak sees the ball parried away. Brilliant stuff from the Slovenia goalkeeper.

21:12 BST - PENALTY PORTUGAL! Diogo Jota goes on a probing run which takes him into the box, and he draws the foul. VAR take a look, but there's nothing to say the penalty should be overturned.

21:59 BST - The first period of extra-time is up and running.

21:54 BST - END OF THE 90 MINUTES: There's the referee's whistle. There have been no goals so we are heading into extra-time. Slovenia had one bit chance to score, but it was spurned by Benjamin Sesko when he snatched at it.

21:50 BST - Cristiano Ronaldo has just had a chance to end matters but his shot on the angle went straight to Jan Oblak. He furious with himself.

21:36 BST - We are into the final 15 minutes of the 90. We could be heading into extra-time here...

21:05 BST - We are back underway. Who will be the hero and lead their side in the quarter-finals for a date with France?

20:50 BST - HALF-TIME: There's the whistle to signal the break in Frankfurt. Portugal have had more chances, most of them falling to their star man Cristiano Ronaldo, but the score in this last 16 tie remains 0-0 at half-time.

Cristiano Ronaldo's first half

20:49 BST - CHANCE! Joao Palhinha fires in a shot just before half-time and the ball just shaves the left post. That was very nearly the opener.

20:35 BST - CLOSE! And it's Cristiano Ronaldo again! He gets over a free kick on the edge of the box and thunders the ball towards the top right but it whistles over the crossbar.

20:14 BST - CHANCE! Cristiano Ronaldo receives a near-perfect cross from Bernardo Silva and looks set to head it in for the opener, but the ball is just an inch or two too high.

20:01 BST - With a blow of the whistle from referee Daniele Orsato, we are underway.

19:50 BST - The players will shortly be out the tunnel for the anthems. There will be some nerves on the part of the Slovenians, but after a 0-0 draw with England last time out, they will have some confidence they can cause an upset this evening.

19:32 BST - Here's what was said after France's late win against Belgium a little while ago.

France coach Didier Deschamps said: "It's beautiful. We played very well against a very good team. It was tight even if I think we had a lot more possession and more chances too.

"We have to enjoy, not analyse too much. We're into the quarter-finals."

Belgium captain Kevin de Bruyne said: "We had a plan today and I think we did well. We knew that with France's quality we wouldn't have too much of the ball but there were moments where we were dangerous… It's a shame to concede a goal like that but that's football."

19:09 BST - Cristiano Ronaldo leads the line for Portugal, looking for his first goal of the tournament. The 39-year-old striker will become the oldest player to score in the competition's history if he finds the net but failed to do so in three group-stage appearances.

Ronaldo is also one of several Portugal players in danger of suspension for a potential quarter-final if booked, with Joao Palhinha starting and also on a caution.

Coach Roberto Martinez reverted to the 4-3-3 formation which earned his side a comfortable 3-0 group-stage win over Turkey, after his side were shocked 2-0 by debutants Georgia in their last appearance.

The Spaniard rotated most of his side for that game but has brought back his key players tonight, with the oldest player in Euros history, 41-year-old Pepe, starting at centre-back.

Slovenia have brought in Jure Balkovec for the suspended Erik Janza but otherwise maintain the other 10 players from the side that drew 0-0 with England to progress.

Playing in the knock-out rounds of a major tournament for the first time in their history, Slovenia will hope RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko can break his Euros duck after hitting the woodwork multiple times in the group stage.

19:00 BST - Attention now shifts to Portugal's match with Slovenia! The lineups are already in and you can check them out below:

18:42 BST - GOAL! France have the lead! Randal Kolo Muani puts the French ahead, their patience has been rewarded. 1-0.

18:41 BST - Kevin De Bruyne tests Mike Maignan from range, but the Frenchman denies Belgium again. Could the Red Devils capitalise on the frustration they're causing France? It's still 0-0.

18:38 BST - Both Jan Vertonghen and Domenico Tedesco have been booked.

18:33 BST - The second half hasn't been much different from the first as France continue to push Belgium for an opener. Who will break the deadlock? It remains, 0-0.

18:28 BST - Romelu Lukaku finds some space and fires a shot toward Mike Maignan, but the Frenchman is equal to the Belgian's efforts. 0-0.

18:27 BST - Kylian Mbappe carves out a lovely chance, but he's unable to convert for France. 0-0.

18:19 BST - Yannick Carrasco gets a shot off, but it doesn't threaten the goalkeeper all that much. 0-0.

18:04 BST - We are back underway in Dusseldorf, where it remains France 0-0 Belgium...

17:46 BST - HALF-TIME: France 0-0 Belgium. A frustrating period for the French, but they've had the better of the Red Devils.

17:24 BST - Marcus Thuram carves out France's best chance of the half, but it's a tame effort that goes wide. 0-0.

17:26 BST - Adrien Rabiot has been booked and will miss France's next match. 0-0.

17:25 BST - Kevin De Bruyne has the first real chance of the match! The Belgian cracks an effort goalward from range, but it's saved. 0-0.

17:23 BST - Antoine Griezmann has joined teammate Tchouameni in the ref's book. It has been a frustrating affair for the French thus far. 0-0.

17:14 BST - France's Aurelien Tchouameni has been shown the game's first yellow card. 0-0.

21:52 BST - FULL-TIME: There's the whistle from the referee and Spain have done the job. They were made the fight by Georgia, who led 1-0 early on and we're still in the game at half-time at 1-1, but Spain's class finally told in Cologne. Click here for the full report.

21:41 BST - GOAL! The result is now beyond doubt thanks to Dani Olmo's goal, but Georgia still deserve a lot of credit for the way they've played tonight. Spain 4-1 Georgia.

21:33 BST - GOAL! This one won't be ruled out. Nico Williams's superb solo goal makes it 3-1 to Spain, who are now cruising towards a quarter-final against Germany.

21:32 BST - GOAL RULED OUT! Giorgi Gvelesiani puts the ball into his own net, but he's spared by VAR spotting an offside in the build-up.

21:10 BST - GOAL! Fabian Ruiz has given Spain the lead for the first time in this game as they complete the turnaround. Ruiz took a lofted pass from Lamine Yamal and provided a nerveless finish there.

21:03 BST - We are back underway in this last 16 tie. What more can Georgia produce here?

20:53 BST - While we're on a break, why not relive the highlights of England's unbelievable turnaround?

20:48 BST - HALF-TIME: There's the referee's whistle in Cologne. Georgia have been on the ropes at times, but they are still veyr much in this last 16 tie with the scores locked at one apiece.

20:40 BST - GOAL! Giorgi Mamardashvili had been maing a habit of flinging himself about to keep Georgia in the game, but eventually he is beaten by Rodri who brings Spain level at 1-1. There was a check from VAR but the goal stands.

20:19 BST - GOAL! And despite a huge amount of pressure from Spain, it's Georgia who get it! They break down the right in what is their first attack of the tie, and when the ball is crossed in by Giorgi Chakvetadze, Robin Le Normand unwittingly turns the ball into his own net. Georgia lead 1-0.

It's the first goal Spain have conceded at Euro 2024.

20:14 BST - As for England's hero Jude Bellingham, the goalscorer told ITV Sport: "I know what I can deliver in those moments. Regardless of what people say, I've done it this year for Madrid, I've done it for England before. Just happy to help the team."

On where he places his goal in the moments of his career: "Depends how we're looking in two weeks. If it ends up being one that helps the team win the cup then it will be right up there."

Jude Bellingham

20:09 BST - Harry Kane says England's win showed England's "desire and attitude", as they now turn their attention to the quarter-finals.

"That's the desire and the attitude from the boys," a relieved Kane told ITV Sport. "It looked tough for a second there but you keep going... Jude does what Jude does and what an unbelievable goal.

"We know we'll do whatever it takes, we have another game like this in the quarter-finals then so be it. This team knows how to dig deep and that's exactly what we've done today.

"We could have been better, we could have played better but ultimately it's a results business and that's what we care about. We can enjoy the comeback and hopefully take that momentum into the rest of the tournament."

20:05 BST - Harry Kane may have scored the winner, but he gave all the credit to Jude Bellingham for the goal that sent their game into extra-time.

"One of the best in our country's history, I reckon," Kane said.

20:01 BST - We are underway in Cologne. Can Georgia cause a monster upset here tonight?

19:44 BST - After all that drama, there's still another game to come, with Spain facing off with Georgia. The winner of this tie will face Germany in the quarter-finals.

The team news is in, and midfield lynchpin Rodri returns after suspension as Spain coach Luis de la Fuente makes 10 changes to his starting line-up for Sunday's Euro 2024 last-16 tie against tournament surprise package Georgia in Cologne.

The Spain team is the same as that which started their 1-0 victory over Italy in their second group game, a result which allowed them to secure qualification for the knockout stages as winners of their section. That meant De la Fuente chose to change almost his entire team for the last match, with only Aymeric Laporte keeping his place for the 1-0 victory against Albania.

Georgia's team is the same as that which started against Portugal last Wednesday, when they recorded their first ever win at a major tournament, a 2-0 triumph allowing them to reach the last 16.

They are led by Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and striker Georges Mikautadze, of French club Metz, who scored three goals in three group games.

18:26 BST - Cole Palmer enters the fray as Kieran Trippier comes off - Bukayo Saka fills in at left-back.

18:10 BST - NO GOAL. Phil Foden creeps ahead of a square ball and has his goal disallowed. A bad mistake from the Englishman.

18:09 BST - GOAL! England equalise!

18:04 BST - The players are back out for the second half and something needs to change, or England are going out with a whimper. Not a single substitution at the break, which is quite baffling after that first-half showing. Underway for the second 45.

17:49 BST - Half-time and England trail to Slovakia. It has been predictably poor performance so far, with not enough being created by the Three Lions.
