The Czech national team said Wednesday that Slavia Prague midfielder Petr Sevcik would replace Michal Sadilek at Euro 2024 after the Twente Enschede player suffered a bizarre injury.
Sadilek picked up a lacerated shin wound while riding a tricycle down a mountain in Austria on a day off during a pre-Euro training camp last Saturday.
The 30-year-old Sevcik, with 15 international games under his belt, will join the team ahead of Thursday's departure for Germany where the tournament starts on Friday.
The Czechs beat Malta 7-1 last week and North Macedonia 2-1 on Monday in their last friendlies before Euro 2024.
Quarter-finalists from the last edition, they face Portugal on June 18, Georgia four days later and Turkey on June 26 in Group F.
