Our Picks: London derby in the FA Cup plus a huge Italian rivalry
Take a look at our pick of the games to keep an eye on this weekend.
Charlton Athletic v Cray Valley Paper Mills - Joel Barnett
The stand-out tie of the FA Cup first round sees League One Charlton host Cray Valley Paper Mills in a cracking south London derby at The Valley.
The non-league Millers have reached this stage of the competition for only the second time in their history after successfully navigating their way through five qualifying rounds.
Currently mid-table in the Isthmian League South East Division - the seventh tier of the English football pyramid - Cray Valley will make the short trip to their neighbours on Sunday after beating Lordswood, Uxbridge, Northwood (after extra time), Carshalton Athletic (after a replay) and Enfield Town.
Their 19-year-old forward Kyreece Lisbie - who scored twice in their thrilling 5-2 win against Enfield last month - is the son of former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie, and will be eager to maintain his goalscoring form as they look to upset the odds once again.
Kevin Lisbie spent 11 years at Charlton between 1996-2007 and played four seasons at Cray Valley before hanging up his boots last year.
The Millers’ trip to Charlton is one of 40 FA Cup first-round ties to be played this weekend, with 32 winners of the final qualifying round joining the 48 clubs from League One and League Two.
Fiorentina v Juventus - Ste Carson
It's an Italian rivalry that needs very little introduction: I Viola versus I Bianconeri.
This match has often swung in the favour of Juventus throughout the decades, but the Old Lady has been feeling rather frail in recent years.
Juve have started the Serie A season brightly, though – with seven wins and two draws from their opening 10 matches. A shock 4-2 defeat to Sassuolo is their only real blemish so far.
Fiorentina, despite naturally feeling the weight of the clash, will come into the match with their heads held high.
The Viola fell to defeat in their last two games, but have enjoyed a relatively bright start to the season – winning five of their first eight matches of the new season.
With three straight wins on the bounce, the Bianconeri find themselves just two points behind Serie A leaders Inter.
It'll be intriguing to see how former Fiorentina boys Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic perform against their old outfit. The pair have five goal contributions apiece in the league this season.
For Juventus, a test against their old rivals presents an opportunity to flex their might once again as they intend to impose themselves in a forthcoming title charge.Fiorentina will be looking to their dynamic duo of Nicolas Gonzalez and Giacomo Bonaventura with hope – both already have six Serie A goal contributions each this term.
If the Viola are to get a positive result at home, though, they will need to plug their defence – with 14 goals already shipped, they have the leakiest defence in the league's top half this season.
Lyon v Metz - Anthony Paphitis
It seems early to label this a relegation battle, but the league positions argue that it is as bottom-placed Lyon host 16th-placed Metz.
Winless Lyon have struggled massively on the pitch already and last weekend’s dreadful scenes before their match against Marseille only adds more baggage to the storyline.
Les Gones’ team bus came under siege from Marseille fans which left manager Fabio Grosso bloodied with a deep head wound and the match abandoned.
That means Grosso’s men have had approaching two weeks to fully accept their dismal position, which was condemned further after a defeat to second-from-bottom Clermont last time out.
Things aren’t as glum for their opponents in Metz and although they only have nine points from 10 games, the tight start in Ligue 1 means they are actually within touching distance on eighth-placed Rennes, as the table currently stands.
However, good performances of late have been hard to come by for Les Grenats, who recently ended a four-game losing run with a bore draw against fellow promoted side Le Havre.
Scoring has been an issue for Metz with just eight goals scored - the second-worst record in the division - with Lyon and Clermont’s seven the worst.
Two sides short of quality in front of goal suggests a low-scoring affair at the Groupama Stadium, but Lyon’s unplanned lengthy break could give them a much-needed edge.
