For the first time since these reports emerged, an official representative has confirmed talks between the two sides.
Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed the information. "We have been in contact with Leo Messi's team. Leo knows how much we appreciate him and that I would like him to come back here," Yuste said.
He was also involved in the talks that led to Messi's departure from the club two years ago. "I was involved in the contract talks two years ago and I still remember how hard it was to let Messi leave," the vice-president recalls.
He made no secret of the fact that the club is trying to find ways to bring Messi back.
"Leo Messi certainly loves Barcelona and the city, so we hope to find the right conditions to continue his history here," he said.

Barcelona coach Xavi was also asked about a possible return of the Argentine. He did not want to reveal too much information, but confirmed that the club wants him.
"This is not the time to talk about Messi's return. I talk to him a lot. It's a subject we are discussing. We hope to see him back at Barcelona. It's the club of his life, " Xavi said.
Lionel Messi is under contract with PSG until this summer. The French club has already announced that it wants to extend his contract and has started the first negotiations.
