Burnley move off the bottom of the Premier League with win at Fulham
The Cottagers had won their previous two home matches 5-0, and came out of the traps quickly determined for a similar scoreline. James Trafford was busy inside the opening 15 minutes, parrying fierce shots away from Harry Wilson and João Palhinha, while Alex Iwobi also came close by hitting the side-netting after a mazy dribble.
Burnley did not offer much at the other end, with Lyle Foster seeing his team’s only attempt of the first half blocked by Tosin Adarabioyo.
The second half started completely differently, as the Clarets gained belief from keeping the score level at half-time, and found themselves quickly in front.
Youngster Wilson Odobert exchanged passes with Foster before beautifully curling his fourth goal this season into the top corner from outside the box - the visitors’ first shot on target in the match.
Burnley were in a ruthless mood after that, and doubled their lead midway through the half with their next shot on target.
Sander Berge opened his PL account for Vincent Kompany’s side with a lovely long-range strike into the bottom corner, after a driving run from midfield.
Fulham did not offer much of a response, with Wilson squandering their best opportunity to get back in the game as Trafford saved at his near post late on.
Nonetheless, it is still a huge result for Burnley, who won their first top-flight match on London soil for two-and-a-half years. Marco Silva’s men, meanwhile, have now suffered back-to-back PL defeats without scoring, as they remain rooted in mid-table.
