The London club issued a statement on Wednesday announcing that they had opened disciplinary proceedings following the video of racist chants posted by Enzo Fernandez on Monday night.

The French Football Federation has taken action, while Chelsea have also reacted.

More than 24 hours after Enzo Fernandez posted an Instagram live video showing some of the Argentinian players singing racist chants about the French team, the London club has announced that it is launching an internal disciplinary procedure.

The statement follows an apology from the player on his Instagram account.

"Chelsea find any form of discriminatory behaviour totally unacceptable. We pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome. We recognise and appreciate our player's public apology and will use it as an opportunity to educate," the club said.

On Tuesday evening, Wesley Fofana labelled the chanting "unabashed racism in football in 2024" via his social networks.

Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto also unfollowed their teammates' social media accounts.

Finally, Jules Koundé reacted to the video, denouncing its "lamentable" nature.
