Nottingham Forest earned a precious 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, ending a run of four consecutive defeats in the Premier League (PL).

Forest came into this game in poor form with just one win in their last 11 PL games (D4, L6), and were significantly wounded by their 5-0 defeat to Fulham in midweek.

Despite this, the visitors made the perfect response inside the opening quarter hour, as Harry Toffolo headed home from fellow wing-back Neco Williams’ cross at the back post, his first goal for the Tricky Trees.

Keeping clean sheets has been an absolute struggle for Forest this season having kept just three in the league this season, and the visitors’ fragile defence were helpless to stop a Wolves equaliser just after the half-hour mark, as Matheus Cunha finished off a sweeping passing move for his fifth PL goal this season, and first at Molineux.

Forest almost restored their lead right on HT but Cheikhou Kouyaté saw his effort saved by José Sá from close range.

Steve Cooper’s side were determined for a positive result here, and almost went in front again seven minutes into the second half, but Anthony Elanga’s shot struck the underside of the crossbar.

However, Wolves were still dangerous at the other end, and Matt Turner denied Cunha a brace with a fine save on his return to the side. In the end, neither side could find a winning goal as Forest held on for what is a crucial point in terms of moving further away from the relegation zone, and easing the pressure off of Cooper.

The result does not really improve on their dreadful away record though, as the Tricky Trees have now won just one of their last 19 PL away fixtures, and stay in 16th place.

As for Gary O’Neil’s team, they are now unbeaten in six home league matches, but will be disappointed to not take all three points against a struggling Forest, even though the point does lift them up to 12th in the table.
