Clinical first-half finishes from Iliman Ndiaye and Micahel Keane secured Everton their first Premier League (PL) away victory since December 2023 at the expense of struggling Ipswich Town.

Ipswich continued their search for their first PL win of the season and the Portman Road club almost found themselves in front inside the opening five-minutes, when a near-incisive breakaway saw Wes Burns and Liam Delap exchange passes before Jack Clarke ballooned the ball wide from a dangerous position.

In what has been a recurring theme of Ipswich's return to the top-flight, the Tractor Boys’ tendency to invite their own pressure would again prove to be their downfall.

Sean Dyche’s side would’ve been sensing an opener when successive attacks down the right-flank eventually paid dividends as the Toffees grabbed the lead. Burns failed to clear to safety, when Ndiaye reacted sharply, rifling the ball high into the net.

The Toffees didn’t have it all their own way however, and were afforded a let-off when VAR overturned Michael Oliver’s decision to point to the spot, after quick-footed Clarke went to ground.

Unlike Ipswich, Everton are seasoned campaigners in the PL and were able to regain control of the contest, doubling their lead five-minutes before the break. Dwight McNeil spun his way through a flurry of Ipswich bodies before his delightful reverse pass was met with an unstoppable near-post finish of equal quality from Keane.

Everton looked good value for their two-goal advantage and were rarely troubled with the hosts failing to find much in response. A driven attempt from Delap swerved narrowly past the Everton post as the young striker attempted to break the lull and inspire his side with 15-minutes remaining.

That chance injected a new wave of attacking confidence, although their attempts were repeatedly met by a resolute Toffees rearguard as they banked a rare away-day victory.

Ipswich’s latest defeat sees Kieran McKenna’s side create an unwanted club record of eight winless games since the start of a top-flight season. Meanwhile, the improving Toffees notch a successive clean sheet and edge their way towards mid-table, having extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
