Shortly after Declan Rice bagged the winner, Gabriel Jesus sweetened the deal and made it 3-1 to put the result beyond doubt.

Saturday, September 2nd

22:23 BST - Fulham manager Marco Silva was left fuming after a controversial goal scored by Manchester City's Nathan Ake was failed to be ruled out by a VAR review.

"That moment made a huge impact. Everyone that plays football, has some knowledge about football, are 100% sure they have to disallow that. It's impossible to not," he told reporters. "It's a clear offside, it concerns us how that goal was not disallowed."

Read more here.

22:02 BST - A couple of results to tell you about in France and Italy.

Monaco claimed a somewhat expected 3-0 win over Lens in Ligue 1 - you can read our report on that match here.

And over in Italy, Lazio have dealt Napoli their first defeat of the new Serie A season. Read more here.

19:50 BST - Monaco will kick-off in 10 minutes as they look to go clear at the top of Ligue 1. They face a struggling Lens side who will fall to 17th with another defeat.

Lens were drawn against Arsenal in the Champions League and have endured a terrible start to the campaign so far, but can they turn it around?

You can follow their match against Monaco here.

19:30 BST - The full-time also goes in Germany and Italy with Bayern and Bologna coming from behind to secure late 2-1 wins over Monchengladbach and Cagliari respectively.

19:25 BST - Kaoru Mitoma misses the chance to add another for Brighton at the death but it doesn't matter. The full-time whistle blows and the Seagulls climb to fourth with a 3-1 win, Newcastle suffer their third defeat of the season!

19:20 BST - Right at the end! Mathys Tel scores in the 88th minute to give Bayern the lead. Can they see this one out? They'll have a 100% record in the league if they do...

Meanwhile in Brighton, Callum Wilson has pulled one back for Newcastle, but surely it's too little too late?

And in Italy, Giovanni Fabbian scores for Bologna in the 88th minute and are moments away from winning their first game of the season... but it's a terrible error from Cagliari goalkeeper Boris Radunovic. Goodness me!

19:15 BST - There are 15 minutes left on what has been a superb team performance from Brighton this evening.

19:00 BST - And that's his hat-trick! Evan Ferguson has a speculative shot at goal that takes a wicked deflection off Fabian Schar that goes beyond Nick Pope and into the back of the net. 3-0!

18:54 BST - Ooosh. Pick that one out! Just as Newcastle were pressing, Brighton move the ball to Evan Ferguson who sweeps the ball home from 20 yards for his second goal of the game. 2-0!

18:50 BST - There are 30 minutes left on the south coast. Can Newcastle come back?

Joshua Zirkzee has equalised for Bologna who are now 1-1 against Cagliari, while in Germany, Leroy Sane has scored for Bayern who are 1-1 against Monchengladbach. Time for a Kane winner?

18:37 BST - Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to BBC Sport about his disappointment at seeing his team slump to a 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

"We are disappointed because we did everything to try and get a different result but football is about not making mistakes and we made one mistake and paid for that," he said

"We created many chances but we did not score. This Premier League is really competitive if you don't score it is difficult to win."

18:35 BST - And we're back underway!

18:19 BST - It's half-time at the Amex between Brighton and Newcastle with the Seagulls still leading 1-0. Monchengladbach are also leading by the same score at half-time against Bayern.

There's a big 45 minutes coming up in both matches.

18:17 BST - There will be two minutes of injury time added on at the end of the first half in Brighton.

Meanwhile over in Serie A, Cagliari are 1-0 up against Bologna. La Dotta will drop into the relegation zone just above Lazio with defeat. It's currently half-time and you can follow the match here.

18:05 BST - Ko Itakura has given Monchengladbach a shock lead over Bayern. It could have been 2-0 almost immediately but Sven Ulreich pulled off a brilliant save to deny Julian Weigl.

17:55 BST - Brighton are on top at the Amex and have deservedly taken the lead against Newcastle with Evan Ferguson quickest to react to a Nick Pope fumble to make it 1-0. Moments later, Joao Pedro saw his shot blaze over the bar. Solly March has already seen his shot hit the post - will Brighton rue these missed chances?

17:48 BST - Over in France, neither Brest or Rennes could put the pressure on Monaco and played out a drab 0-0 draw. Monaco face Lens this evening and will go top of the table with a win.

Also looking to go top of their respective league is Bayern Munich who kicked-off their Bundesliga clash against Monchengladbach a short time ago. It's currently 0-0, and you can follow the match here.

17:38 BST - Erling Haaland has explained why Man City started their match against Fulham at a slow pace.

"Every year is like this at this club," he said. "We start a bit late and a bit sloppy because we play right until the last game (of every season) because we are the best club. It is how it is. We will only get better and better from here."

17:30 BST - And we're underway at the Amex Stadium.

17:17 BST - In Spain, Real Madrid have come from behind to beat Getafe with Jude Bellingham scoring the winner in the 95th minute.

Madrid dominated play after falling behind, as these stats show!

17:12 BST - Brighton take on Newcastle in about 15 minutes and both teams will be buzzing after their European draws in midweek.

Newcastle, in the Champions League for the first time since the 2003/04 season, face PSG, AC Milan and Dortmund, while Brighton - in Europe for the first time in their history - have former European champions Ajax and Marseille, as well as AEK Athens in their Europa League group.

In Germany there were 23 goals scored in five Bundesliga matches this afternoon with Monchengladbach v Bayern Munich still to come. I bet Harry Kane will want to add to that tally. Kick off is at 5.30pm.

16:28 BST - It's now five for Spurs! Son Heung-Min has a hat-trick to maintain their perfect start to the season. A few moments later, Erling Haaland scores his second of the game from the penalty spot as Man City take a 4-1 lead over Fulham, while David Brooks gives Bournemouth a 2-1 lead at Brentford.

Over in Spain, Real Madrid have equalised against Getafe.

Back to the Premier League, Spurs now lead 4-1 at Burnley - Son Heung-Min has scored his second of the game from another Manor Solomon assist - and Man City have taken a 3-1 lead over Fulham with Erling Haaland scoring his fourth goal of the season.

16:15 BST - Nottingham Forest have taken the lead at Chelsea! Anthony Elanga - who came on as a first-half substitute - finds the bottom corner with a first-time shot. Forest will climb above Chelsea in the table with a win here.

15:54 BST - It's half-time! Manchester City and Tottenham both lead at the break with Brentford, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Forest all level.

15:46 BST - We're into injury time at the end of the first-half around the grounds. Spurs have come from behind to lead at Burnley with a thumping drive from Cristian Gabriel Romero, and Man City have retaken the lead against Fulham with a controversial goal from Nathan Ake following a VAR review.

15:40 BST - There have been goals at every Premier League game so far today, apart from at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have yet to have a shot on target.

The Blues are currently dominating play however, with 68% possession.

15:35 BST - Shots are flying in! Tim Ream has levelled for Fulham just three minutes after Julian Alvarez put City 1-0 up, and Dominic Solanke has equalised for Bournemouth against Brentford.

15:22 BST - Son Heung-Min has levelled for Spurs at Burnley. Chelsea v Nottingham Forest and Man City v Fulham are still goalless.

In the Championship, Rotherham have taken a shock lead at home to Norwich - Rotherham were joint-bottom of the league ahead of kick-off and the Canaries were looking to go top with a win, but it's early, of course.

15:10 BST - Lyle Foster has put Burnley 1-0 up against Tottenham and Brentford have taken the lead against Bournemouth, courtesy of a Mathias Jensen strike.

Man City are on top against Fulham - who earned a point against Arsenal last weekend - and Chelsea have already had a couple of chances against Nottingham Forest.

15:00 BST - Peep peep! We're underway around the country.

14:55 BST - Over in Germany, Stuttgart have scored three goals in the opening 19 minutes to stun Freiburg, who were joint-top of the Bundesliga ahead of today! You can keep track of that match here

14:45 BST - We're 15 minutes away from the 3pm kick-offs...

13:55 BST - We've played over an hour in the early matches. Sheff Utd and Everton are battling for a crucial win - it's still 2-2 there - while Bristol City have come from behind to lead at Swansea.

13:49 BST - I'm not sure many people had Sheff Utd and Everton down as the game of the weekend but it's turning into a classic! Arnaut Danjuma has just pulled Everton back into it. It's 2-2 at Bramall Lane.

13:40 BST - Team news for the 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League will be coming soon and we'll bring these to you as soon as we have them. 13:26 BST - Whist we take a half-time breather, analysis from Deloitte has shown that Premier League clubs spent £2.36 billion during the summer transfer window - accounting for a staggering 48% of all spending across Europe's top five leagues.

You can read more about this here.

13:19 BST - The half-time whistles are blowing around the grounds. In the Premier League, Sheffield United have come from behind to lead Everton 2-1 with Jordan Pickford scoring an unfortunate own goal in the dying moments of the half.

In the Championship, Millwall and Swansea are leading against Brimingham and Bristol City, while Sunderland are 3-0 up against Southampton. Wreham are 0-0 at Tranmere in League Two.

13:10 BST - Sheffield United have failed to win any of their last 14 matches after falling behind, but have given themselves a real chance to break this rot with Cameron Archer clawing themselves back into their game against Everton.

It's still 1-1 and we have five minutes to go before half-time..

13:00 BST - We've played 30 minutes and both Birmingham and Southampton - who could have overtaken Leicester at the top of the Championship with a win - are both trailing. Kevin Nisbet has given Millwall the edge at St Andrew's.

12:46 BST - Everton have scored their first league goal of the season, and how important could that be? Against the run of play Abdoulaye Doucoure prods them ahead at Sheffield United.

12:37 BST - Oof. It's now 2-0 to Sunderland after just seven minutes. This could be a long afternoon for the Saints. It's still goalless in the other kick-offs.

12:31 BST - The first goal of the afternoon goes to Sunderland with Jack Clarke heading the Black Cats in front against Southampton inside the opening minute of the game!

12:30 BST - And we're underway around the country in the lunchtime kick-offs!

12:20 BST - Everton and Sheff Utd have both lost their opening three league games of the season and when asked about the importance of today's fixture, Everton boss Sean Dyche told TNT Sports: "Every game is a huge game, that is the truth of the market which we are in."

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom added: "We did see we had four of our first six games at home, we hoped to capitalise on that. We have now got the game that we have today and we want to try and win it."

11:44 BST - As well as Premier League action, there are three matches in the Championship kicking-off at 12.30pm: Birmingham v Millwall, Sunderland v Southampton and Swansea v Bristol City, and one match in League Two, with Wrexham - who've scored 11 times in their opening four matches - traveling to Tranmere.

We'll bring you all the latest.

11:40 BST - The team news is in for the lunchtime kick-off as Sheffield Utd take on Everton.

Both sides have made sweeping changes to their midweek Carabao Cup games. The big news for the Blades is new loan signing Luke Thomas is on the bench, with Beto - who came off the bench to star for the Toffees against Doncaster - making his first league start for Everton.

Interestingly Everton have only named five outfield players on their bench as well as two goalkeepers.
