Match preview

The relegation-threatened Leeds powered to a 2-0 lead before eventually conceding twice in the final 30 minutes of the match, subsequently extending their winless run to eight Premier League (PL) matches (D4, L4).

Despite throwing away two points, Leeds caretaker manager Michael Skubala said his side should be "proud" of their display.

While they ought to be, the club’s next permanent manager will need to work on the psychology of his side in order to shake their tendency to throw away leads. The Whites have now dropped 15 points from winning positions - only Leicester have dropped more coming into the round.

Although manager Erik ten Hag labelled the start made by his Manchester United side on Wednesday as unacceptable, it is the visitors who might feel they have the edge thanks to that comeback.

They are now set to face the same opponent in consecutive top-flight fixtures in the same season for the first time since December 1967.

The second of those two meetings back then, against Wolves, came away from home and ended with a win (3-2), and the same outcome here would hand the Red Devils successive league wins at Elland Road for the first time since 1976.

Yet, this is going to be a fixture to test the mettle of Manchester United.

Not only do the home fans always give them a hostile welcome, but the top four chasing visitors travel winless in two PL away games (D1, L1), alongside a record of six defeats from their last 11 PL games to be played on a Sunday (W4, D1).

Players to watch: Leeds have scored 2+ goals and gone undefeated (G4 - W1, D2) in each competitive game Wilfried Gnonto has scored in this campaign. After three months out battling physical and mental issues, Jadon Sancho came off the bench to grab his first Man United league goal since September on Wednesday - he also registered two league assists on this ground last season.

Hot stat: Only one of the last seven H2Hs have been goalless at half-time.
