Carlton Morris’ second-half penalty helped Luton Town secure their first point of the Premier League season, as they drew 1-1 with 10-man Wolves at Kenilworth Road - a result which continues the visitors' terrible away form, with just two wins to their name in 2023 (D4, L9).

In their first meeting in a league fixture since 2007, and first in the top-flight since the 1983/84 season, Luton welcomed Wolves in a game that had the feeling of a very early relegation six-pointer.

Luton were looking to make their home advantage count and nearly got off to a great start, as Morris tried his luck from range, but his shot rifled off the post of José Sá’s goal.

Jacob Brown and Albert Sambi Lokonga also had early chances at the visitors’ goal, but nothing that challenged Sá and his defence.

While the hosts continued to try and break the deadlock before the interval, Gary O'Neil will have been furious with his Wolves side, as they failed to register a single shot in the first half, but things would get even worse before the interval, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Tom Lockyer.

Despite that setback, Wolves came out after HT and took the lead after just five minutes as Pedro Neto’s run down to the byline ended with the winger cutting back onto his left foot and, against the angle, he smashed the ball into the roof of Thomas Kaminski’s goal with the.

This didn’t deter the Hatters, who continued to push for the equaliser, and they were soon given a lifeline when João Gomes was deemed to have handled the ball in the box and conceded a penalty. Morris stepped up from 12 yards and sent the ball into the bottom left corner to level the game.

Despite the continued downpour of chances on the Wolves goal, the hosts were forced to settle for a single point, which given the events of the game will leave them frustrated to not have gotten all three.

Wolves on the other hand will feel fortunate that a terrible first half and sending off didn’t see them leave empty handed, as they try to keep some distance between themselves and the relegation places.
