Premier League Player of the Week: Pedro makes his mark off the bench

A productive performance appeared unlikely when Joao Pedro was named among the Brighton substitutes against Nottingham Forest.

However, he rubbished that claim with two goals en route to a 3-2 win at the City Ground and a 9.5 player rating, naming him the Premier League Player of the Week.

The 22-year-old Brazilian was introduced into the action in the 21st minute for the injured Ansu Fati and gave Brighton a different dynamic up front.

After Evan Ferguson's clinical finish, Pedro put Brighton ahead on the stroke of half-time with a powerful header past Odisseas Vlachodimos.

He then won a penalty in the second half, which he slotted coolly into the bottom corner to give the Seagulls some breathing room.

Pedro put in plenty of work defensively too as Brighton sought a first Premier League win since September.

He won 11 duels, made four clearances and two tackles as the visitors saw out an eventual three points.

Pedro's display could very well give Roberto De Zerbi some thinking to do in terms of his next starting lineup, which comes in the Europa League against AEK Athens.

Brighton's next Premier League fixture is on Sunday at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
