Premier League Team of the Week: Chelsea and City stars put on a show

VAR dominated the headlines again over the weekend, but that shouldn't overshadow some fantastic performances from Premier League players across the country.

Our Team of the Week is based on of Flashscore's player rating system and not anyone's opinion - so let's have a look at who's included this time around.

GK: Sam Johnstone, 7.8 (Crystal Palace)

Crystal Palace have performed as many would have predicted so far this season, finding themselves right in the middle of the table in 11th spot.

Much of their steady success has been down to a top defensive record - which continued in their 2-0 win against Burnley.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been integral to the Eagles having the fifth-best defence in the league so far and was the top performer out of all the 'keepers over the weekend.

DEF: Trent Alexander-Arnold, 8.1 (Liverpool)

While Liverpool will be frustrated that they could only manage a 1-1 draw against strugglers Luton, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be pleased with his individual performance.

The full-back was creatively brilliant against the Hatters, completing six key passes and setting up two big chances to earn himself a rating of 8.1.

DEF: Nathan Collins, 7.9 (Brentford)

Nathan Collins netted the winner in Brentford's 3-2 win against West Ham, rising highest to power in a header at the back post.

The defender is enjoying a sharp turnaround in form, quickly becoming a key part of the Bees' defensive unit.

DEF: Ola Aina, 8.1 (Nottingham Forest)

Another unlikely scorer at the weekend came in Ola Aina, who bagged his first goal for Nottingham Forest during their 2-0 win against high-flyers Aston Villa.

The former Chelsea prospect struck a pin-point effort into the bottom corner early in the first half to give his side a surprise lead, which set the tone for the match to come as Forest picked up their third win of the season.

MID: Jordan Ayew, 8.2 (Crystal Palace)

Jordan Ayew is the second Palace player to make our Team of the Week after his starring role in their victory away at Burnley.

The Ghanaian set up the opening goal with a lovely cross to Jeffrey Schlupp and continued to provide an attacking outlet for the Eagles throughout the rest of the match.

MID: Conor Gallagher, 8.3 (Chelsea)

In perhaps one of the strangest (and most entertaining) matches of the season so far, Chelsea eventually thrashed the nine-men of Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 - with Conor Gallagher proving to be an important factor in their victory.

The midfielder kept his cool in crucial moments during the second half to see that the Blues capitalised on their opponent's mistakes, ensuring his side mounted huge amounts of pressure on a make-shift Spurs defence.

Gallagher was integral to Chelsea dominating the ball during the second half and earned an 8.3 rating following his solid showing.

MID: Bruno Fernandes, 8.3 (Manchester United)

Manchester United have struggled offensively this season and have sorely missed any moments of magic from their attacking stars.

That finally changed over the weekend, with Bruno Fernandes firing in a last-minute winner in their 1-0 victory against Fulham.

The Portuguese midfielder provided an attacking threat throughout the match for United, registering three shots on target and completing one key pass, but it was his instinctive strike late on that proved to be the difference in London.

MID: Bernardo Silva, 8.6 (Manchester City)

The first of two Manchester City players to make our Team of the Week, Bernardo Silva excelled during a 6-1 win against Bournemouth.

Despite another attacker stealing the show (more on him later), Silva still managed to score twice and have a strong creative influence on the match.

On top of two goals, the midfielder made three key passes and maintained a 93% pass accuracy as City cruised to a dominant win.

FWD: Cole Palmer, 8.7 (Chelsea)

While Gallagher was important to maintain pressure, Cole Palmer was the creative key Chelsea needed to unlock Spurs' defence.

Palmer scored from the penalty spot and got himself an assist, while completing four dribbles and continuously proving to be a reliable attacking threat.

The youngster has been a shining light in a disappointing campaign so far for the Blues.

FWD: Nicolas Jackson, 8.5 (Chelsea)

Nicolas Jackson netted a hat-trick for Chelsea against Spurs, ensuring their second half dominance turned into a vital three points.

The striker struggled with some of the more difficult chances and on another day might have scored even more, but his persistence paid off in the end with three well-taken goals.

FWD: Jeremy Doku, 10 (Manchester City)

The standout performer by some distance this week was Jeremy Doku, who scored once and registered an incredible four assists in City's thrashing of Bournemouth.

The wingers' superb showing earned him the first perfect 10 of the season, the highest rating of any Premeir League player so far this campaign.

Doku has shone since arriving in Manchester and continues to torment defenders every week.
