Former Inter Milan player Belfodil accused of attempted murder
The news was reported by French newspaper Le Parisien, revealing the 31-year-old argued with his sister, who did not press charges but showed signs of strangulation.
Belfodil, formerly of Inter, Parma, Hoffenheim and Hertha, among other European clubs, is currently detained at Elancourt's police headquarters in the suburbs of Paris.
In the meantime, an investigation is trying to reconstruct what happened in order to have a clearer idea.
Belfodil, who plies his trade for Qatar's Al Gharafa, could thus end up in serious trouble, after his career has seen a steady decline.
The Algeria forward has sought refuge in the rich Qatari league, where he will not return for the time being.
UPDATE: Belfodil has been released and the case dismissed.
