San Marino beat Liechtenstein to record first victory in 20 years
After 20 years, football minnows San Marino have finally celebrated their second victory – again against Liechtenstein.
In their Nations League opener, the team at the bottom of the FIFA world rankings won 1-0 in Group D1 against the same opponent whom they recorded the first victory in their football history – also 1-0 – back in 2004.
Nineteen-year-old Nicko Sensoli scored the only goal in the 53rd minute.
Twenty years ago, Andy Selva, who still holds the nation's goal record with eight, had scored to deliver San Marino an iconic victory.
National coach Roberto Cevoli, who made his debut on the touchline in March, improved his record to one win, one draw and three defeats.
