12:52 BST - Australia are trying to make something happen but they overhit a pass to Kerr that Earps easily collects.

12:51 BST - It's silent inside Stadium Australia as England are minutes away from reaching their first World Cup final.

12:48 BST - There will be six minutes of time added on.

12:46 BST - England make another sub. Toone, who scored the first goal, is replaced by Charles.

12:45 BST - The Lionesses make a change. Russo comes off for Kelly. The hosts bring on Chidiac for Gorry.

12:44 BST - England are heading to the World Cup final! The Lionesses break and Hemp makes a superb run towards goal, setting up Russo who sends a low fizzing shot into the bottom corner. 1-3!

12:43 BST - Another chance goes begging for the Matildas. A cross comes into the England box that Earps punches only to Kerr who fires narrowly wide. How costly will that miss be?

12:39 BST - Australia are threatening. Fowler chips in a glorious pass for Kerr who agonisingly heads over. Moments later Vine has a low shot spilt by Earps, but England clean up and survive. It's tense, with less than five minutes of normal time to go.

12:38 BST - Another change for the Matildas. Polkinghorne comes off for van Egmond.

12:34 BST - There are just 15 minutes remaining. Can the Lionesses hold on? They win a corner and are booed for time wasting. Bright heads over.

12:33 BST - Australia make a change. Raso is off, replaced by Vine.

12:28 BST - England regain the lead! Bright plays it long to Hemp who charges at goal, unnerving the Australia defence who fail to stop her from poking low under the despairing dive of Arnold. 1-2!

12:25 BST - Australia have woken up. They win a corner that Earps manages to claw away with the ball heading in.

12:20 BST - And just like that Australia level! An incredible goal from Kerr! The Matildas regain possession and Kerr runs towards the England goal. Out of absolutely nothing she fires a sensational shot into the back of the net. Earps had no chance. Wow.

12:19 BST - This might be tempting fate, but England are defending very well. They look extremely disciplined as they break down another Australia attack.

12:14 BST - Hemp controls the ball on the edge of the box and fires an effort at goal. Arnold does well to save. From the corner, Bright jumps highest and heads narrowly wide.

12:10 BST - Australia are passing the ball about nicely as they look to assert themselves in this second half. But just as they look to threaten, England win the ball back.

12:08 BST - It's end-to-end at the moment as England win a corner. Greenwood takes it but nobody can connect and the ball goes out for a goal kick. Unlucky.

12:07 BST - Good chance for Australia as Fowler sends an inviting ball into the box, but Foord fails to find enough power on her header to worry Earps.

12:02 BST - Australia get the second half underway. A huge 45 minutes (or more) begins, with a place in the World Cup final up for grabs.

11:25 BST - England's Toone is very lucky to escape without a booking after a late tackle on Gorry, as Australia's Raso slides in late on Carter. Nothing given.

11:22 BST - Australia are looking nervous as they struggle to get a grip of the game. What can the Lionesses do here? Hemp tees up Russo in the box but Raso wins the ball back for the Matildas.

11:18 BST - England are now on top and are currently enjoying a whopping 67% possession. Russo has a sight of goal but shoots into the side netting. Close.

10:55 BST - The players are in the tunnel and we're minutes away from kick-off.

10:30 BST - Look familiar? Stadium Australia was the venue for Cathy Freeman's heroics at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and Jonny Wilkinson's last-minute kick for World Cup glory three years later.

Will the venue bring more joy for England supporters or their hosts today? We're 30 minutes away from kick-off...

10:25 BST - The majority of fans inside Stadium Australia will be supporting the hosts, but not these two!

Aiming to become the first host nation to win the Women’s World Cup (WWC) since the turn of the century, Australia face arguably the sternest test of their credentials yet in this semi-final.

Roared on by what will undoubtedly be a raucous Sydney crowd, Australia stand on the brink of yet more history, with England standing in their way of what would be a first-ever WWC final appearance.

Even just making the last four is a first for the Matildas, who booked their place in this showdown with a penalties victory over France after a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes.

And it’s been strong defensive showings which have got Australia this far, as they’re the only team in the semi-finals to have kept four clean sheets on their way to getting there.

It was a much similar story the last time these nations met too, with a 2-0 Australia win in April 2023 handing Tony Gustavsson’s side the psychological advantage ahead of this huge showdown.

Despite having reached the semi-finals, England have been rather unconvincing in getting here.

Fowler v Russo

A 6-1 thrashing of China aside, the Lionesses’ three other tournament victories have all come by slender one goal margins, leaving Sarina Wiegman scratching her head as to what has happened to the current European champions, who had to battle from behind against Colombia to book their spot in the last four.

Wiegman is aware of the size of the task that awaits her side here, describing it as an “away game” given the size of the Aussie following that will pack out the Stadium Australia.

That may prove to be a psychological barrier to overcome for England, as even home advantage didn’t help them in their aforementioned April defeat to Australia, a result which serves as their only loss since April 2021.

Players to watch: Australia’s Mary Fowler has proved to be influential of late, contributing to goals in three of her last five appearances (G2, A1), with both goals arriving after half-time.

Alessia Russo was England’s hero in the quarters and has accumulated more shots on target (11) than any other player at this WWC.

The Lionesses’ will be hoping their lucky charm strikes again as they’ve won on all ten of her international scoring appearances.

Hot stat: Just two of Australia’s last 13 internationals have seen both teams score.
