Former World Cup of Darts star Momo Zhou has passed away at the age of 31.

The tragic news was confirmed by the Chinese player's sponsors Target on social media on Thursday.

"We are sad to announce the passing of Momo Zhou (31) a loved member of the #TeamTarget family based in China," a statement read.

"We would like to thank you all for her support over the years and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time."

Zhou was one of the best Asian players and made history in June 2018 when becoming the first woman to represent China in a televised PDC event at the World Cup of Darts.

She teamed up with Xiaocheng Zong at the tournament in Frankfurt and became the second female player to feature after Russia’s Anastasia Dobromyslova in 2010.

Zhou captured the hearts of fans during China’s first-round match against Switzerland when she cheekily celebrated a missed dart from her counterpart.

Zhou reemerged in the spotlight when she hit 10 perfect darts during last year’s China Series A League.
