Fulham v Nottingham Forest preview: Cottagers aim to get back on track

After securing safe passage to the last 16 of the FA Cup in midweek, Fulham will now attempt to get their Premier League (PL) campaign back on track after a slump in form recently.

The Cottagers have failed to win any of their last three league games (D1, L2), although those results were against Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea, respectively!

Despite that poor form, this remains Fulham’s best points tally at this stage of a PL season in their history, with Marco Silva’s men just two points adrift of a place in the top six.

If they’re to elbow their way into European contention, tightening up at the back will be top of the agenda, as only Tottenham have conceded more than Fulham’s 30 goals among top-half clubs.

Nottingham Forest may prove to be the perfect visitors as they’ve scored just three league goals on the road this term - fewer than any side in England’s top six tiers!

Things are far from doom and gloom as that record may suggest though, with Steve Cooper’s men unbeaten in five league games (W3, D2) - a run that has helped pull them nicely clear of the relegation battle.

The Welshman stated he ‘wasn’t happy with the performance’ despite his Forest side beating Leeds 1-0 last time out, their fifth such winning scoreline from six league victories this campaign.

He’ll definitely be satisfied by the six-point gap to the drop zone that result helped to create though, as top-flight survival becomes an ever-more likely possibility for the Tricky Trees, who now sit as close to Chelsea in ninth as they do to the bottom three.

Players to watch: Fulham frontman Aleksandar Mitrović has netted four goals in eight career meetings with Forest, who’ll likely be relying on Brennan Johnson as he’s contributed to at least one goal in each of his last four PL appearances (G3, A2).

Hot stat: Just one of Fulham’s last 11 PL games was decided by more than a one-goal margin.
