England international Gemma Bonner is to re-join Liverpool, subject to clearance, after moving on from the club four years ago.

The 31-year-old left Merseyside for Manchester City in 2018, where she stayed for three years.

Bonner then signed for Racing Louisville in the United States, but will now return to Liverpool for 2023.

The defender captained the Reds to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014 before joining Man City.

"I was here for quite a while before," said Bonner, in an interview published on Liverpool's official website.

"It was a hard decision to leave, but I think I always knew within myself that one day I would love to come back to Liverpool."

"Now the time feels right," added Bonner.

Liverpool are next in action against rivals Manchester United next month.
