Giroud gets AC Milan back on track in tight Torino victory
Milan’s recent struggles were evident from the first whistle, as Torino looked in control and pressed the issue.
While he’s undergone criticism as of late, Ciprian Tatarusanu was in fine fettle and made a flurry of saves to keep the scoreline level in the opening interval. It was an all-too-familiar half of football for the Milan faithful, as their side limped to the break without a sniff of goal.
Milan’s fortunes appeared to turn in the second half, as they began to tick.
Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud were at the heart of the hosts’ attacking thrust, and looked to combine for the opening goal ten minutes into the second half.
However, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic showed his class by clawing the ball off of the line in the nick of time to ensure the deadlock remained.
The Rossoneri were finally rewarded for their efforts just past the hour mark when Giroud sent a headed effort into the bottom corner of the net, sparking wild scenes of relief at the San Siro.
Torino pushed to level the proceedings, but the Milan rearguard remained stubborn.
Wilfried Singo flashed his header just wide of the post from a corner in the final 20 minutes, but that was all the Granata could muster as they looked to claw back a late equaliser, seeing Torino’s two-game winning streak against Milan snapped.
