Manchester City fans can breathe a sigh of relief as manager Pep Guardiola has rubbished claims star striker Erling Haaland may have a special release clause in his contract.

The Norway international made headlines on Wednesday night, bagging a brace in the Champions League against Copenhagen as Man City brushed aside the Danish side by the way of a 5-0 scoreline.

In his post-match interview, a visibly elated Guardiola was quizzed about rumours concerning Haaland and his long-term future.

As stated by BBC Sport, there exists rumours that the 22-year-old has an exclusive agreement with Real Madrid written into his contract for a future move.

Guardiola dashed the gossip - he said: "It's not true, he has not got a release clause for Real Madrid or any other team. Rumours, and people talking, you cannot control it, so we have to worry about what we can control.

"The important thing is that he has adapted really well [at City]. I have the feeling he is incredibly happy here, and this is the most important thing."

Haaland has taken to life at the Etihad like a duck takes to water, bagging a staggering 19 goals in 12 appearances thus far in all competitions.

City are next in action this coming weekend, playing the role of host to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
