Coming into the contest on the back of an impressive victory over Manchester City last time out, Tottenham looked full of confidence in the opening exchanges, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Ivan Perišić both going close to opening the scoring.
After a dominant start, the visitors found a deserved breakthrough in the 14th minute, as Bentancur reacted fastest inside the six-yard box to tap home for his fifth PL goal of the season.
Undeterred by the early setback, the hosts responded in brilliant fashion with two quick-fire goals before the half-hour mark.
First, Nampalys Mendy powered an unstoppable strike into the roof of the net to level the scores, before James Maddison gave the Foxes the lead just two minutes later, sweeping home a clinical finish after good work from Kelechi Iheanacho.
Both sides continued to threaten before the interval, and it was Leicester who extended their advantage on the stroke of HT, as Ihenacho made the most of some lax defending to curl an accurate effort into the bottom corner beyond Fraser Forster.
Tottenham emerged after the restart eager to gain a foothold in the contest, but a lack of cutting edge in the final third continued to prove problematic, with the Leicester rearguard holding firm.
With time ticking into the final 20 minutes, the hosts thought they’d scored a fourth to seal victory, however, Harvey Barnes saw a close-range strike disallowed for a fractional offside to keep Spurs’ faint hopes alive.
Despite the fortunate reprieve, any hopes of a late Tottenham comeback were extinguished with nine minutes remaining, as Barnes curled home from the edge of the box to secure a richly-deserved three points for the hosts.
The result lifts Leicester up to 13th, six points clear of the relegation zone, while Tottenham remain 5th, having missed the opportunity to climb into the top four for at least a couple of hours.
