Manchester United will be left frustrated they were unable to undo Newcastle this weekend, despite dominating the ball for much of the match.

The two sides played out a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The result means Man Utd remain in fifth place, one point ahead of Newcastle and three behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

The match wasn't without controversy, however. Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a chance to snatch the winner.

Having cheekily pipped the ball from the toe of Nick Pope, the Portugal international was pulled back by referee Craig Pawson.

Fabian Schar passed the ball back to his goalkeeper for a free-kick, but Ronaldo seemingly thought that was the free-kick taken, nicked possession from Pope and rolled the ball into the empty net.

The half-time whistle would have been welcomed by many, with Newcastle resisting any and all of Man Utd's advances in the first period.

Though, the second-half had a bit more about it; Ronaldo had the ball in the back of the net, as mentioned, but Man Utd's celebrations were cut short.

Newcastle were galvanised by the shock and firmed up their defensive efforts, as they did in the first-half, to see out the stalemate.
