Mark Selby is set to face Belgium’s Luca Brecel in the final of the English Open, which gets underway in Brentwood at 1pm on Sunday.

Selby, the four-time champion, reached the final after coming from 3-1 down to beat Australian Neil Robertson 6-4, while Brecel reached Sunday’s showpiece with a straightforward 6-2 victory over Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen.

The 39-year-old Selby recorded two centuries and three breaks over 50 to end a run of seven defeats against Robertson.

"I’m really happy", he told the BBC after reaching his first ranking final since winning the world title 2021.

"The last two or three times he's beaten me he has played faultless snooker - it was a bit like playing against a computer.

"I knew I needed to win frames in one visit to beat Neil and I managed to do that."

Meanwhile Brecel shot into a five-frame lead over Allen on his way to reaching the final.

"I felt good today", he told Eurosport. "I missed a couple at 5-1, but every time I come under pressure I feel quite good.

"I’m not going to crumble. If you are confident and calm, good things are going to happen."
