Drag down or hit refresh for latest updates

22:36 BST - Well then, to the sport.

Tune in to our Tracker from tomorrow morning where we'll have a bit of badminton, rowing, judo, shooting, volleyball, gymnastics and swimming - including Team GB's Adam Peaty.

You can scroll through the full schedule here ahead of tomorrow - see you then.

22:28 BST - And that's that! Lovely finish!

Catch up on some of the best pictures from the evening right here.

Let the Games begin!

22:23 BST - We're at the cauldron now, which looks quite stunning and is topped by a hot air balloon, which is finally lit by an array of French athletes, including the oldest living French medallist, French judoka Teddy Riner and sprinter Marie-José Pérec.

It's actually rather beautiful as the balloon rises and the flame bellows across the Parisian night sky.

Like something out of a film.

And now Celine Dion is singing from the Eiffel Tower. There she is!

22:14 BST - No one seems to know really what's going on now, but it seems we're having a procession of more athletes taking the torch into the centre of Paris...

22:00 BST - The Eiffel Tower lights up with an impressive laser display.

OK yeah, that's pretty cool.

Nadal's now on a boat carrying the flame back down the river.

Oh hang on, Serena Williams is also on the boat and has now taken the torch.

21:57 BST - Speeches done, the one and only Zizou is here to greet the mysterious torch bearer to (hopefully) go and finally light the flame.

Oh look, it's Rafa Nadal! Now he's having a go.

21:36 BST - By the way, did anyone bother to fish the Mona Lisa out of the river?

21:29 BST - OK, the horsewoman is on land and bringing the Olympic flag up to the stage.

Walking at Robocop pace.

Next, it's time for the Olympic anthem.

21:26 BST - Maybe she's coming for Charlotte Dujardin?

21:24 BST - Honestly, it's still going:

21:19 BST - We're now watching a very long scene of the torch bearer riding a silver horse along the river.

It's been going on for quite some time.

21:10 BST - And for one hell of a juxtaposition, now we have a rendition of John Lennon's Imagine whilst the singer, Juliette Armanet, is floating on a barge next to a flaming piano.

21:07 BST - Also, sorry, forgot to mention this blue chap:

21:06 BST - Crikey, we're having a full-blown rave now.

Bet Andy Murray is having it right large as we speak on the GB boat.

If Daft Punk don't come out, then what are we even doing here?

20:59 BST - Now we're talking, it's only a bloomin' Euro trance medley!

How's Celine going to follow this?

20:52 BST - All the countries are through now, bar the hosts, as a very soggy torch bearer cartwheels to his destination.

The crowds erupt as the host nation finally parade down the Seine.

20:23 BST - We're now celebrating French fashion with models and a catwalk across a rainy bridge.

The crowds seem to be having a lovely time, though.

20:00 BST - Bucketing down, by the way.

19:52 BST - The Minions (are they French, I don't know?) have stolen the Mona Lisa, which is quite a swerve. Now it's floating in the Seine and no one's all that bothered about it.

Hoping the fabled mystery torch bearer is actually Eric Cantona.

19:41 BST - There's Team GB, enjoying the weather. Just like home.

Andy Murray's on there with the whole gang.

19:26 BST - French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura is here performing now, the most-streamed French language artist on Spotify.

Now the VT takes us for a quick wander through the Louvre before we get back to the flagbearers.

Cyprus first, so we're only on C.

19:16 BST - Oh, by the way, diver Tom Daley and rower Helen Glover will be Team GB's flagbearers when we eventually get there.

Just headbanging at the moment, though.

We've also seen/heard the bells of Notre-Dame and seen the process of the medals being made and beginning their own journey somewhere.

Apparently, each medal contains a bit of metal from the original Eiffel Tower, and Michael Phelps is on the same boat looking after them or something.

19:15 BST - A bunch of beheaded Marie Antoinette's are now hanging outside a palace while a metal band - named Gojira - for want of a better word: shreds.

19:04 BST - A quick little can-can cabaret from the actual Moulin Rouge, and it seems to have started raining.

18:52 BST - This would have been a great time and place to advertise the new Joker: Folie à Deux film she's in. Feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.

Right, back to the athletes on boats!

18:48 BST - We have our first musical interlude and it's none other than Lady Gaga doing a bit of Moulin Rouge down some steps.

Two words: pom poms. Or is pompoms one word?

Either way, there's lots.

18:39 BST - The athletes are now on their way on their respective water vessels, starting with Greece, of course!

I wonder if Celine Dion will be singing the Titanic song, and if she does, is that not a bit weird?

18:32 BST - We're one minute in, and we're already getting a close-up of Zinedine Zidane's lovely head.

18:25 BST - Five minutes to go, and heads up - it will last just under four hours.

Best get yourselves comfortable.

17:26 BST - From Greece to the streets of Paris, take a look at the torch's star-studded relay:

17:10 BST - Looks like pop star Ariana Grande is going to be involved this evening, or she's just being a big ol' tourist at a very awkward time:

17:06 BST - There is a little over an hour to go now to the opening ceremony, which is all taking place outside in the open air on the River Seine.

The forecast isn't looking too great though, with some suggesting some apocalyptic level rainfall by the time the show starts. Uh oh!

15:36 BST - As Paris prepares for the opening ceremony of the Olympics this evening with what promises to be a spectacular parade of boats along the river Seine, here's a look back at memorable Olympics curtain raisers of the past.

13:41 BST - France may be the home of haute cuisine but the British team have been less than impressed about the food on offer at the Paris Olympic village, especially "raw meat".

Britain have brought in an extra chef as a result and complained about a shortage of the right food at the village, and the quality of what's on offer, English media reported.

Am sure the French will love us Brits criticising their food.

13:35 BST - Unsure of Team GB's big medal hopes?

No wozzas: Flashscore has taken a look at a few young British stars who could make an impact for Team GB on the big stage in the French capital this summer.

Take a look here.

13:25 BST - You probably know already, but the Olympics has already kind of started with the football already underway.

Ever wondered why Team GB doesn't put their own men's team out - other than in London in 2012?

Well, here's why

Here's what one might have looked like in 2024.

13:00 BST - Welcome aboard to our Olympics Tracker!

Tonight marks the opening ceremony of Paris 2024, and rumours are swirling about who may appear.

Apparently, Lady Gaga has been spotted around town, while Titanic titan Celine Dion is also being touted - she's knocking about in the French capital as well.

Then there's Snoop Doggy Dogg, who's already put a shift in by carrying the torch earlier today.

Who else might there be? Is it time for a Daft Punk reunion? Will the organisers fancy something cool, like a bit of Justice, Air, Sebastien Tellier?

We can only wait and see: the ceremony is set to begin live on the River Seine at 18:30 BST.

Follow all the action from Paris with Flashscore.
