Olympics Tracker: Peaty eases into Sunday's final, France win first gold

22:23 BST - That's it from us today - here's our round-up of all the key talking points from today, including France's rugby joy and Team GB's fast start to the Games.

21:04 BST - Adam Peaty told the BBC that he's enjoying his swimming again after reaching tomorrow's 100m breaststroke final in dominant fashion.

"It’s an absolute privilege to be out there after what I’ve been through," Peaty said. 

"Sport is so testing, so you can’t beat that really. It was a great crowd, I enjoyed it out there and I’m loving it again.

"My son always says to me ‘Daddy are you the fastest boy?’ That’s what he says. Even if I haven’t seen him for two weeks, he always asks! I guess that’s all he cares about!

"I want to be the ‘fastest boy’ tomorrow for him."

20:56 BST - A phenomenal showing from the Americans, who absolutely blew away the rest of the field in the 4x100 men's freestyle.

It was tight for the rest of the medals, but Team GB had to settle for fifth.

20:50 BST - Australia have just dominated the 4x100m freestyle women's relay, holding off USA and China, who came in second and third.

Team GB are aiming to medal for the men's 4x100, which is coming up next...

20:23 BST - Reigning champion and world record holder Adam Peaty has eased into the men's 100m breaststroke final.

In the same race, Team GB's James Wilby finished fifth, which may be enough.

20:08 BST - Germany's Lukas Martens has taken gold in the 400m freestyle, while Australia's Ariarne Titmus beat America's seven-time Olympic gold medallist Katie Ledecky to first in the women's 400m freestyle.

Elsewhere, Nadal and Alcaraz are through to the next round in the men's doubles with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 victory.

19:30 BST - We're off to the pool now.

This evening we have the men's 400m freestyle final, women's 400m freestyle final, women's 4x100m freestyle final and men's 4x100m freestyle relay final, plus heats for other lengths.

19:09 BST - Scenes in the Stade de France as the hosts pick up their first gold medal of the Games after their rugby sevens beat the defending champions Fiji 28-7.

18:42 BST - If you want a bit of must-see tennis, current star Carlos Alcaraz and the legendary Rafael Nadal are in action for Spain in the men's doubles - follow their match live here.

18:30 BST - South Africa take the bronze medal in rugby sevens after beating Australia 26-19!

The gold medal match between Fiji and France is set to get underway at 18:45.

17:54 BST - Finally, we've got a bit of reaction from Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek's victories in the first round of the tennis singles tournaments.

Djokovic cruised past unranked Australian Matthew Ebden in under an hour and wasn't too pleased with how easily he beat his opponent - read more here.

17:48 BST - France and Fiji have set up a mouthwatering rugby sevens final to be played later this evening after two huge wins in the semi-finals this afternoon.

Two-time champions Fiji defeated Australia, while Les Bleus stunned South Africa with an impressive comeback win.

17:43 BST - Let's round up this afternoon's Olympic action then, shall we?

Both Spain and Argentina made a mark in the men's football tournament, winning their games against the Dominican Republic and Iraq respectively - read more on the two footballing giant's victories here.

17:40 BST - Aside from finishing up some heats in the canoeing, that's it for Team GB for a couple of hours now until the swimming gets back underway at around 19:30.

Elsewhere, there's plenty of football and rugby sevens to keep track of as well as some judo and boxing - take a look at what's on offer over the next couple of hours in our daily Olympic schedule.

17:00 BST - Heartbreak for Tarling who drops out of the top three, meaning Team GB's medal count will remain at two until at least this evening when the men's and women's 4x100m swimming relays begin.

16:56 BST - Team GB's Tarling finishes his race in bronze position - now we wait to see if it is enough for a medal with some riders still to finish.

16:48 BST - Tarling is well-placed heading towards the end of his time trial, although it remains to be seen if it will be enough for a medal.

15:40 BST - The rain is affecting just about everyone in Paris and played a big factor in the women's cycling today, with many riders crashing during the time trials.

Britain's Henderson managed to cruise through for a silver medal though, which you can read more on here.

15:04 BST - Henderson wins silver! It's Britain's best medal of the day so far after an impressive ride - taking second place by just one second. Grace Brown of Australia takes the gold.

Josh Tarling is up next in the men's Individual Time Trial which gets underway at around 15:30.

15:00 BST - It's looking good for Henderson, who is currently leading the women's time trials. There are three more riders still to finish, but only two of them are close to her time which means another medal for Team GB is on the horizon.

14:15 BST - We're finally getting moving with the tennis - Novak Djokovic has won his singles opener 6-0, 6-1 against Australia's Matthew Ebden

Carlos Alcaraz has also picked up a win for Spain, while on the women's side of the competition both Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini have won their first matches.

13:53 BST - Britain picked up their first medals of Paris 2024 earlier today in the women's 3m Springboard Synchronised diving; the first on the opening day for Team GB since 2004.

13:28 BST - Team GB's second shot at a medal is coming up soon in the women's road cycling Individual Time Trial. 

Anna Henderson is representing Great Britain and will race towards the end of the event at around 14:15, although plenty of riders go before her.

Fun fact - she was on course to become a professional skier until breaking her leg which led her to turn to cycling and now, here we are at the Olympics.

13:00 BST - Today's first round of men's gymnastics qualifiers have just finished, with Team GB leading the overall standings after some top performances from Max Whitlock, Joe Fraser, Harry Hepworthy, Jake Jarman and Luke Whitehouse

12:25 BST - If you were wondering, the majority of opening round tennis matches have been delayed by the rain, hence the lack of updates.

11:55 BST - Britain's rowing teams have been in action this morning, putting in some good performances across the opening heats.

Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne and Rebecca Wilde finished second in the women's Double Sculls while the men's Quadruple Sculls team have also qualified for their final.

11:10 BST - Time for another update from across this morning's events!

Adam Peaty finished second overall in the men's 100m Breaststroke heats, with compatriot James Wilby finishing sixth.

Elsewhere, Team GB's men's hockey team won their opening match 4-0 against Spain. The gymnastics and equestrian are still ongoing while both men's and women's tennis is about to begin.

10:55 BST - Team GB have their first medal of the 2024 Olympics! Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen take bronze in the 3m Springboard Synchronised diving after an impressive showing against the likes of China (gold) and the USA (sliver).

10:40 BST - China take the first gold medal of Paris 2024 with victory in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team event!

10:15 BST - Team GB have a chance at a first medal this morning - with Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen taking part in the 3m Springboard Synchronised diving. 

09:55 BST - The first medals of Paris 2024 go to Kazakhstan! They take bronze in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team event.

09:48 BST - Coming up over the next hour we've got plenty of swimming, diving and gymnastics action - including the likes of Adam Peaty in the 100m freestyle at around 10:30.

09:45 BST - We've got our first Team GB update of the day for you - with the men's hockey team currently leading Spain 2-0, while we have athletes in first place in both individual and team Equestrian events.

Britain didn't fare as well in the shooting, failing to qualify for a medal event after a poor finish the in Mixed 10m Air Rifle Team qualification.

08:30 BST - We've had our first rain delays of the 2024 Olympics! The skateboarding has been put on hold due to poor weather - hopefully, other sports won't be affected.

07:45 BST - There are no fewer than 14 gold medals up for grabs today, while Team GB's first athletes compete at around 08:00 in the shooting.

Great Britain have plenty of athletes at the games and could even win their first medals today; with the women's 3m Springboard Synchronised diving finals at 10:00.

Following that, there will also be medal opportunities in the Individual Time Trial cycling with the women's final at 13:30 and the men's at 15:32.
