Scotland secure Nations League promotion with Ukraine draw
The Scots controlled the opening stages of the game with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn (27) playing in Che Adams (26), but the striker's deflected effort was tipped wide by Ukraine keeper Andriy Lunin.
The hosts (playing in Krakow, Poland) chimed back with several good chances of their own, with Andriy Yarmolenko (32) volleying over the bar from close range.
Scotland keeper Craig Gordon (39) made several big saves in the previous fixture and was on good form again during round two - making a crucial block to keep out Artem Dovbyk's effort in the first half.
Scotland briefly thought they had been awarded a penalty before a VAR check confirmed the ball had not struck an arm and the decision was rightly reversed.
Gordon continued his fine display early in the second half, keeping out a dangerous curling effort from Mykhaylo Mudryk, while Callum McGregor had a chance deflected over as the Scots tried to keep Ukraine at bay.
The home side piled on the pressure late on but some resolute defending - particularly from debutant Ryan Porteous (23) - saw Scotland hold on to record a famous result, much to the delight of the travelling Tartan Army.
The 0-0 draw means that Clarke's side finish top of Group B1 on 13 points, with a EURO 2024 play-off confirmed and promotion to League A secured, leap-frogging the relegated England and Wales in the process.
