Team GB select athletes to compete at Winter Youth Olympics 2024
The athletes, aged from 15-18, will take part in 11 of the 15 sports in the Olympic programme including apline skiing, bobsleigh, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, luge and snowboarding.
Almost 2,000 athletes from 40 nations will compete in Gangwon - the venue of the PyeonChang Winter Olympics in 2018 - from January 19th until February 1st 2024.
Four-time Olympian Eve Muirhead, who led Team GB’s women’s curling team to gold at Beijing 2022, will head the British delegation after announcing her retirement from competition last year.
The 33-year-old, who also won bronze at Sochi 2014, said: "I am incredibly proud to be leading this year’s delegation for Gangwon 2024, and it is a huge honour to prepare the team for what is a formative event in their careers.
"I’ve been to four Olympics with Team GB and have led a team throughout the majority of my curling career so I understand the emotions of performing on the world’s biggest stage. I’m thrilled I can share my knowledge and advice with these athletes dealing with the pressure at this level."
With the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics 2026 on the horizon, there is hope these young athletes will follow in the footsteps of Muirhead's teammates at Beijing 2022 - Mili Smith and Ross Whyte - who both competed at Lillehammer 2016, and Kirsty Muir, who was the youngest member of Team GB at Beijing 2022 after winning big air silver at Lausanne 2020.
