The F1 Mexican Grand Prix is here: Dates and stats

Grand Prix season has hit Mexico
Grand Prix season has hit MexicoAFP
The Mexican Grand Prix starts this week, the penultimate of the 2022 season. Although both the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships already have a champion (Max Verstappen and his team, Red Bull), the fight for the other positions in both competitions continues to be fierce, so the excitement of this great circus will continue for another weekend.

Formula 1 has barely moved geographically. If last week was in Austin, Texas, in the US, this weekend it's time for the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome in Mexico City to once again host a test of the most important automobile competition in the world.

Now that the controversy is over - the sanction against Fernando Alonso, which the FIA has annulled - and also that of Red Bull, which has been punished for exceeding the spending limit, it is the turn of the over 4,000km of Mexican track and everything that happens on it during the 71 laps that take place on Sunday.

Battle for second place

With first place already decided in both the drivers championships, which Dutchman Max Verstappen took, and in the teams' championship, with Red Bull dominating with an iron fist, the spotlight will focus on other equally attractive duels.

The second place is red hot, with the Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc just two points ahead (267 to 265) of a Checo Pérez who will try to assert the "field factor" in his favour with the fervent local public on his side for his team to get the first two places in the World Cup.

Somewhat behind are George Russell, from Mercedes, and with 218 points, Carlos Sainz (28), with 202, whom the former destroyed the race in Austin when he started from pole. The Spaniard also has Lewis Hamilton hot on his heels with 198 points.

Also interesting is the fight between the two Alpines with Alonso (41), once he had recovered the points that had been taken from him, just seven points behind Esteban Ocon (78-71).

As for the Constructors' World Championship, Ferrari will try to forget its reliability problems to stay in second place, in which it currently finds itself with a 53 margin over Mercedes (469-416). The battle for fourth place is tighter, with Alpine slightly ahead of McLaren (149-138), so that, for once, the eyes will be almost more on the upper-middle area of the grid.
