Vincent van der Voort has blasted the PDC following the release of their selections for the upcoming Premier League.

The darts body unveiled its eight-player line-up for the tournament, which gets underway in Belfast on Thursday.

The list, however, has caused some controversy among fans with fifth-ranked Luke Humphries, European champion Ross Smith and UK Open winner Danny Noppert some of the big names to miss out.

Van der Voort felt frustrated at the snub of fellow Dutchman Noppert and suggested German Gabriel Clemens - who reached the semi-finals of the World Championship - also deserved a spot.

"Ridiculous. Danny also made the semi-finals of the World Matchplay and is much higher (eighth) in the world rankings than Chris Dobey (21st)," he told Dutch publication AD.nl.

"You can't explain that, can you? I look at it as a sportsman, but the PDC seems like an entertainment association. They show their worst side.

"I think they would have liked Gabriel Clemens to be there, because of the German TV market. But then he would have had to go far at The Masters this weekend. That didn't happen and then they would have really faced a lot of criticism if they had added him anyway. That's going too far even for the PDC."

The Premier League starts with Dimitri Van den Bergh up against Wales’ Jonny Clayton.

Michael van Gerwen - winner of the 2022 edition - will get his tournament underway in a World Championship rematch against Michael Smith.
