Van Gerwen leads Ally Pally averages as quarter-finals get underway
It might come as no surprise, but Michael van Gerwen currently leads the tournament averages at Alexandra Palace with 104.3 and is remarkably the only player left vying for the coveted trophy with an average above 100.
The 33-year-old has been ruthless on his way to the quarters with his nearest rivals Michael Smith in second, on 98.17, with Stephen Bunting (98.01) down in third. The two Brits will come head-to-head at 2.10pm on Sunday.
Of the eight quarter-finalists, Bunting has recorded the most 180’s hitting 23 perfect scores.
Chris Dobey, who will face van Gerwen in the last of the quarter-finals at 9.10pm, has recorded the second-highest (21) with ‘Mighty Mike’ and world number seven Jonny Clayton on 19.
Clayton will play Dimitri van den Bergh in the day's opening game and has the highest checkout percentage of the quarter-finalists with 50.65 per cent. The Belgian is second on 47.14 with Van Gerwen third (42.53).
World number one Gerwyn Pryce is strangely absent from all the top scores.
The Welshman has a tournament average of 93.76 with the lowest finishing percentage across all remaining eight players (34.31 per cent).
Pryce has also hit only 16 180’s on the way to the quarters, putting him in seventh-place above van den Bergh.
