Another day filled with dramatic football at the World Cup comes to a close as France, Argentina, Poland and Australia take their places in the last 16.

The permutations in both Group C and D were quite dramatic at times as single goals - and even number of yellow cards - played a role.

Thankfully, there were no splitting of hairs in the end.

Australia finished two points above Tunisia and five above Denmark to qualify with first-placed France.

Despite losing, Poland joined table-toppers Argentina in the next round, with a superior goal difference over Mexico, as Saudi Arabia finished bottom.

Tunisia registered a famous 1-0 victory over France, but were eliminated after Australia's 1-0 win over Denmark.

A surprise result in its own right, the Socceroos have Mathew Leckie to thank for their progression.

The forward received a pass inside the Dane's half, danced his way into the box and guided an effort low into the bottom-right corner of Kasper Schmeichel's net.

Australia qualified for the last 16 through their own merits, but you'd be pressed to find a football fan not from Oz who'd have predicted they make it out of their group.

A day in which fine margins had huge impacts, Leckie stood up and made himself and his nation count.

Perhaps if results had gone differently earlier in the tournament, we'd be talking about Wahbi Khazri, who scored Tunisia's goal against France, right now.
