West Ham ease to victory over FCSB for six wins out of six
Given there was absolutely nothing at stake, David Moyes fielded an inexperienced side featuring Oliver Scarles, who became the sixth-youngest player to ever represent West Ham. The 16-year-old’s dangerous low ball across the face of goal almost produced the game’s opener, but teenage debutant Divin Mubama couldn't direct the ball beyond Ștefan Târnovanu on the slide.
Preventing the Hammers from converting their control into something substantial, Târnovanu denied a Flynn Downes flick, but could do nothing to keep out Pablo Fornals. A long pass from Ben Johnson found Fornals, who picked his spot as he struck a bouncing ball first-time, giving his side a deserved half-time lead.
Alexandru Pantea cleared a deflected West Ham corner off the line at the end of the first period, but the Hammers relentless attacks continued after the break.
As the hour mark approached, Mubama met Vladimír Coufal’s cross with a diving header that deflected beyond Târnovanu. Sadly for the 18-year-old, the goal went down as a Joyskim Dawa own-goal, but fortunately for his side, the match was well and truly over as a contest.
By this point, the Londoners were in full cruise control, and Fornals added a third with his last action of the night, driving in a low shot after a Târnovanu spill.
The visitors wracked up the goal attempts as the game drew to a close, but the score remained at 3-0. West Ham clinch their first-ever win in Romania at the fifth attempt, condemning FCSB to a sixth successive loss against an English side.
