The draw for the 2023 women's World Cup was completed on Saturday morning, with the Lionesses being drawn against Denmark, China and a playoff winner in Group D.

The draw follows on from England winning the women's Euros in the summer of 2022, and Sariana Wiegman's side are one of the favourties ahead of the World Cup.

They will face Denmark, China and one of either Chile, Haiti or Senegal.

Australia and New Zealand will host the expanded tournament, with 32 nations featuring rather than the previous 24.

Republic of Ireland were drawn in Group B alonside the hosts Australia - who they will face in the opening match - as well as Nigeria and Canada.

When will England play?

England's first game will take place on July 22nd, against a nation still to qualify through the playoffs.

They will face either Chile, Haiti or Senegal before going on to play Denmark on July 28th and China on August 1st.

Progression through the round of 16 could see England face Germany in the quarter-finals, the same side the Lionesses defeated in the final of Euro 2022.

The women's World Cup final will be held on August 20th 2023.

Who are the favourites?

Alonside England, the USA are heavy favourites to win the competition.

They were drawn in Group E with previous finalists the Netherlands - who the USA beat to win the tournament in 2019 - and Vietnam. Their thrid opponent depends on the playoffs where one of Cameroon, Thailand or Portugal could join the group.

If the were to win their respective groups, England and the USA would not meet in the tournament unless both of them made it to the final.

The likes of Germany and the Netherlands will also be looking to go far in the tournament, particularly the former who were so close to glory at the Euros in 2022.
